Confused

I’m starting another area with electrolysis seeing as how I’m nearly done with the upper lip. I went to another place since my old electrologist moved and I’m confused about how they do blend there. Prior to this place whenever I had blend done, the probe would be inserted, it would take 3 or 4 seconds, the machine would beep, and so on and so forth. When I last got it done, the probe was maybe in there a second or two and the machine would beep right away. This place uses the Clareblend machine and the other electrologist had older equipment. Is the machine the difference or is this not true blend?

Electrolysis machines are all a little different. It sounds to me with a very quick duration of energy the practitioner is using flash thermolysis, blend takes a little longer.

I know it wasn’t flash because I was holding a metal rod and I specifically asked for blend because my skin can’t tolerate thermolysis.

Some electrologists use the indifferent electrode (holding the metal rod) with thermolysis.

Blend includes thermolysis, so if you tolerate blend, you are tolerating thermolysis. The intolerable thing about thermolysis is that some electrologists “zap the hell” out of people, making it seem as if they can’t tolerate thermolysis.

Clareblend epilators can perform “true blend.” Your electrologist may be utilizing a setting that provides “just enough” galvanic with the thermolysis, thus it is blend.

The important question is: How did it work for you? Did your skin react well?

Ah, I see. Thanks for your replies. Well, I know I can’t handle flash thermolysis. Even 10 minute sessions take me over a week to heal whereas with blend I heal in about 3-4 days. My skin actually had little reaction with these last 2 sessions at this new place (some redness, faded in an hour and no bumps), but is no reaction good? With the probe being in there longer when I’ve had blend before, I would usually have little bumps (no scabs). I guess I’m concerned about this way of doing blend not being potent enough I guess you could say. I like that I didn’t have as much of a reaction but is blend being used to its fullest ability not having the probe in there as long?

“Is no reaction good?” It is possible that your new electrologist has discovered the best combination for YOU!

Reactions vary for many reasons. The solutions used for cleaning and calming; the needle material; the actual insertion; and of course the modality chosen.

There could be many reasons for the improved reaction with your new electrologist. Red flags would be the appearance of stubbly hairs within a few days of treatment and skin irritation that lasts too long.

It sounds like you have found a good one.

Thanks, I’m still a bit apprehensive because I do feel the hairs being tugged on at times and when I brought this up to her she said if a hair was being resistant she treated them again. That’s why I don’t really understand this way of blend. I don’t feel like the probe is left in there long enough to effectively kill the hair the first time around. It’s also slightly hard to really gauge what hairs were treated because I don’t have enough time to get a full clearance so I never know if the hairs that I see are the ones that were treated and have grown back due to poor electrolysis or if they were the hairs that were never treated in the first place. I suppose time will tell.
