Confused about settings (Candela Gentlemax pro)

Hi,

After 2 years since my last laser treatment on my back (I did 6 sessions before with good results) I decided to do the another set of session. Today was the first one…

Before we began I just said I want the high settings (without specifying a number) and the lady said it is high. They have the info from my previous appointments so I assumed they would use the same settings.

I remember that the last few sessions (2 years ago) they always used 18J with 3ms on 18mm probe.

Today the treatment felt the same as I remember it. I definitely felt it (mid painful), but the pain doesn’t last long after the laser pulse.

After the treatment, I noticed strange settings on the machine:

5ms, 11J… and it appeared to me like the dial was on the highest or next to highest setting.

Something like in this photo (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/sublime-medical-aesthetics-riverside-2?select=FWYleEHjtUL2H5S1nro99A)

only the dial was all the way to right and pulse was 5ms…
Could those be the settings? The machine is Gentlemax Pro…

Could it be Alexandrite Fluence with 24mm spot size ? Is that a good machine for hair removal? http://www.spectramedicals.com/candela/GentleMax.php

Anybody knows what could it be?

24mm spot sizes are new on the market like for couple of years now. It used to be that 20mm was largest spot available. And for hair removal the larger the spot the deeper the penetration so ye in theory these new machines are better than 18mm or 20mm options.

The energy and pulse width still have to be aggressive for the skin type to insure better results.

Hi Fenix,

Thx for the answer. So if that’s the case (24mm). I suppose 11J with 5mm are good settings?

I am type II (maybe even I)…

11 joules would be very weak setting especially for largest spot like 24mm. In that case, I would stick to 18 j on 18mmm spot.

the thing I dont understand is that 11J seems to be the MAXIMUM settings on 24mm probe.

check it here: http://www.spectramedicals.com/candela/GentleMax.php

and they do advert 24mm as better for larger areas like back…
