Conflicting advice on time between IPL sessions

Hi all,

I have had two IPL treatments on my bikini line with a Quantum machine.
After the first treatment I noticed good shedding but very little following the second. Also, there seems to be a noticeably large area that hasn’t been treated or effected at all. I also notices that this area is the least painful being treated.

I didn’t wax for three months before my first treatment and didn’t shave at all between the first and second appointment apart from the morning of the second session. It will be five weeks since the second session on Thursday and I am booked to go in on Monday. The beautician said this was fine, even though it wasn’t six to eight weeks because at the start of a course of treatment sometimes it’s better to come in every four weeks? I have googled for hours and found some people recommending tent twelve weeks for bikini line or four weeks or minimum eight and I’m confused!

I have cancelled Monday because of work but should I take an appointment for Saturday (5 weeks just between treatments) or wait until I can go again at 8 weeks? I am only trying to shave before a session incase that helps more so at this stage I hate leaving it and just want to be hair free again!

Any advice would be so appreciated, I’d hate to think I’m doing this wrong!

You must experience at least 90 percent shedding after each session. If you are not, it implies the settings are low AND/OR too many spots are being missed.

If you’re not experiencing almost complete shedding, it makes sense to go for the “next treatment” at 4 weeks but that treatment is actually nothing but a “touch-up” and should be free.

For bikini line, 8-10 weeks is usually what we recommend here between “good” treatments - treatments after which you experience almost complete shedding.

Thanks for your reply. They won’t do free touch up appointments alas and I really don’t think I’m going to get far as it seems a lot of areas have been missed but I paid upfront for a course of treatments. I can’t decide whether to cut my losses and start on alexandrite laser somewhere or keep going here even though I can tell they don’t really care!

If the settings are good, continue here. Unless she is missing more than 30% of the area every session, you’ll do fine.
