Commuting with a red face post-electrolysis

Hi everyone,

Normally right after a treatment, my face is REALLY red, swollen and irritated (naturally!) so I’m usually really embarassed on the way home, I try to cover my face with my hair (like I do when the hair is grown out…uh…can’t wait to stop doing this). I get stares from people, and honestly it doesn’t bother me as much right now because thankfully I get treated close to home and I drive there. But soon, I’m going to have to use public transport to get home and the trek is a bit longer.

I know this is an inevitable part that everyone goes through, but I’d like to know what some of you do to deal with this?
I am thinking of staying at the clinic for a while until the irritation subsides a bit. Was even thinking of applying some powder foundation…is that bad?

Thank you in advance

If I were you, I wouldn’t apply any make up (even just powder).

Honestly, I would wear a cap and dark sunglasses and an outfit that is very nondescript (like a baggy sweatshirt). This way, nobody will recognize you and you can just pretend you weren’t the weirdo with the strawberry face on the bus. :stuck_out_tongue:

Post treatment application of Aloe Vera would aid in faster recovery (especially if your practitioner uses the phorisis to push it deeper into the skin) as would Tea Tree Oil, if you don’t mind the scent. Keep in mind that Lavender works synergistically with tea tree oil, while softening the scent. For this option, I would add the Lavender as a thin layer on top of what ever else you have used, before you leave to go outside.

Some of our favorite stories are the few female clients of mine whose husbands did not believe they were having electrolysis because their lady’s faces looked normal by the time they got home.

One even managed a new Mercedes via the Kobe Bryant apology mechanism.

I wouldn’t use any makeup or anything with chemicals. The redness should go down within an hour or so. Iw ould bring witch hazel with you and apply afterwards. Then wait about 30 mins and you should already by fine by then.

My electrologist also recommends ice for short intervals on the treated area. Their office also uses a non-pore seeping cover up immediately following treatment which hides the redness slightly. In the past I would use regular makeup and it caused scabbing from not following proper aftercare results. Trust me–don’t apply powder—scabs on your face for a week are much worse than the immediate redness following treatment!

Cold water better that ice. The ice may be counterproductive.

It may take a little bottle in the bag with natural aloe vera juice (expires after 24 hours).
You can also apply in the area treated a few drops of olive oil. Prevents blisters.
You can also apply a bit of plain yogurt. The rest can be ingested, prevents tumors in the colon.

James, what a lovely way of apology, have your clients husbands. The husbands of mine, also offer car keys to their wives, but to invite them to go through the car wash machine.

pure mineral make up is good for covering the redness but it must be PURE.

when getting my lip done, i’m gonna wrap my face in a pashmina headscarf and pretend i am muslim! last time i had to nip over the road to the atm to pay the salon and all these muslim men were staring at my extremely red lip, it was too embarrassing! for the other areas i don’t care really.

I use a cool, damp cloth or paper towel to leave on the area or blot if my face is “angry” after electrolysis. Doesn’t take long and I am back to normal.

Thank you everyone for your posts! Ok, NO makeup. I’ll just bring some witch hazel and/or aloe with me…and sit for 30 mins until it looks ok then venture out!

To James: Interesting story!

I usually only do 1 hr sessions on the face and with good aftercare my face looks ok/normal after 1 hr but yesterday I had a 2 hr session and my face is still really distressed. I’m being very diligent with the witch hazel/aloe application
