I have a few dark hairs along/below my collarbone and quite a few around the nipples. (I am female) would electrolysis be better than laser for these areas? about how long would each session take? just curious- how uncommon is it to have hair in these areas??
thanks!
Yes, electrolysis is what you want - not laser.
It is very common for women to have a few hairs around the nipples. A first, full clearance can take under an hour, if even that. I would have a skilled electrologist clear the area with MicroFlash or PicoFlash thermolysis first. Blend is fine as well. As the next group of hairs cycle in and so on, thermolysis or blend electrolysis is fine. Sessions should not be longer than 30 minutes for a few hairs and they should be spaced out over 3-4 weeks at a time. You will be finished in 1 year with perhaps anywhere from 8-15 treatments under your belt.
Electrolysis is awesome for this area and I’m not kidding. Find someone good who has invested in quality equipment, who will give those hairs the proper amount of energy. Stay on a good schedule to get those newly sprouting hairs that will come forth in cycles.
If you disclose your location, we may be able to help out with some electrologist suggestions.
thank you for your reply and advice! one other thing i am wondering- i have been plucking this area for YEARS- will that cause problems with electrolysis being effective? i am in western connecticut if you know of any reputable electrologists.
thank you so much for your help!
Plucking makes hair sturdier, but a good electrologist can handle it easily if the hair is in the growing stage. I’ll check my files later to see if I have anyone I can recommend. Maybe someone else can help out or you could do a search here on hairtell and find some past posts affirming their electrologist.
I had this area done. You need electrolysis. I found blend worked better on the nipple hairs because they were coarse and deep. Thermolysis was good on the rest. It’s ok that you’ve been plucking. Some hairs may require a couple zaps, but you’ll be able to kill them without problems. I was done over a year ago and nothing came back since.
In terms of timing, it depends on how many individual hairs you’re talking about and how committed you are to timely treatments. If you go in to get a clearance and keep it up (i.e. go in as soon as you see new hair pop up each time to kill them), you’ll be done in a year or so. Blend gets about 2-3 hairs per minute, and thermolysis 5-10 hairs per minute. So you can estimate how long clearance would take based on that.
