Coincidence or Something Else?

I’ve had electrolysis on my chin and upper lip for a while. Today (my last big chin session) we discussed having my eyebrows done. Since I had some time left in my session, she did few hairs on each brow. She explained about the swelling and the extra tenderness of the skin in the eye area. All was cool.

I left her office with a bit of puffiness but nothing horrible. Right from her office I went to get a hair cut. As my stylist was cutting my hair, she mentioned that my left eye was red. Hmm… I really couldn’t see it but I believed her. Four hours later my husband noted that my eye was red. Yep, it was and still is, nine hours after a bit of electrolysis. My eye looks like I have pink eye (which I haven’t had in over 40 years).

My question is, could this have been caused by the electrolysis or is it coincidental? I’m convinced that if my eye had been red prior to treatment, my electrologist would have mentioned it and probably wouldn’t have treated that eyebrow.

I must admit I don’t know exactly what type of electrolysis system she uses, but I haven’t had any issues whatsoever when she’s worked on my chin and/or lip. I do plan on calling her in the morning (and my doctor if necessary), but found this site in my google search and thought I’d give you all a shout.

Hi Robin - welcome to hairtell.

I think this is a coincidence and not related to electrolysis. Just to clarify, you are talking about the sclera, the white part of you eyeball, right? Maybe your electrologist didn’t see the pinkness? Your eyes are closed aren’t they when you are getting your eyebrows treated? If you two were making eye contact as you were having a conversation, perhaps she noticed, but perhaps she thought you had an irritation from makeup or lack of sleep?

You are correct to call her in the morning to get her opinion. I do a lot of eyebrows and a pink eye has never been a problem associated with any type of electrolysis I use, which would be different variations of the blend or any of the three thermolysis modalities I have used.

If you have any itchiness or drainage from your eye, or it is sealed shut when you wake up in the morning, make that call to your doctor, too.

Let us know how things go.

Thanks for your response Dee.

My electrologist would have seen my eye had it been pink prior to treatment. She’s a very “eye contact” person, in general. We chatted a bit prior to my treatment and she was working on my chin (one of my last chin sessions) prior to starting the brows (as a test and to use up some of my time).

I had my husband bring home some eye wash (he ended up bringing home some Similisan) which we used a few times and the pinkness went away. The irritation in my eye didn’t act like textbook pink eye (from what I read on the web) and really didn’t bother me. I didn’t call my electrologist or doctor since the pinkness went away within 36 hours.

Oddly, I ran into my electrologist yesterday at a shoe store. I told her of my problem and she was puzzled as well. She has a young child so she is very familiar with pink eye. She suggested it might be a sensitivity to hmmmm… whatever it was she uses to soothe the areas she works on (smells like menthol or camphor). Next treatment we’ll not use that on the brow area.

Again, thanks for responding.

You are very welcome. Glad your eye problem resolved. Let us know how everything goes next time.
