Close shave or leave 1mm stubble before LHR?

I always thought that you’re supposed to shave as close as possible to ‘not waste energy on hair above surface’. But the last time I met with my treating DERMATOLOGIST she told me to leave a few days’ growth of a few mm or even just clip with scissors else it wouldn’t work nearly as well?! Guys HELP!!! I don’t trust her LOL I’ve been to too many scammy laser clinics before (that’s why I’m going with a dermatologist now)

u can leave one side as recommended by your therapist and another side shave as close as clean as possible. Wait 4-8 weeks and show your therapist, your results. Evidence should prove that she’s wrong.

Leave a bit of hair on your skin, will shorten the life of your therapist’s device too.

It will create carbon fume stick to her optical lenses, very sticky to remove

LOL. By the way, I read your LHR materials on your website before I went - that’s where I saw that close shave gives the best results and got suspicious and started this thread. Also learned what my skin’s reaction should be after a successful LHR session. THANK YOU SO MUCH for those great materials! :hearts:

Thank you for replying! I made this thread too late and had to go before I read yall’s replies. I just went with my gut and shaved close at the last minute and it worked really well! This time the derm didn’t say anything that my hair should be longer. Weird. I’m glad I made the right choice.

Hi there!
This reply maybe a bit late as you had another laser treatment and the Derm didn’t say anything about the close shave this time. My thought is they wanted the hair out 1 mm or so because they wanted to get the exact outline of the area to be treated. They perhaps liked the small shadow of dark hairs, so this way they did not over treat the skin or maybe use up more pulses/energy from the laser. I use a white eye liner marker to outline the area to be treated for more accuracy. If the hair is out from the skin surface, then the laser needs to chew off those hairs first, then go under the skin to disable the hair root/cells to help stop the hair growth. This can use up more pulses from the laser or may cause more irritation/redness to the skin. Hope this helps. All the best zapping!

Hi, I shaved only one my thigh and left the other hairy so she could see my hair growth pattern by looking at the hairy thigh.
