Clear and Wait strategy : Time to end

Dear members,

First of all I would like to thank you all for the quality of your answers. It is really helpful to have REAL information while many electrologists outside are saying things and their contrary.

I have been reading the forum for a while and I have a question regarding the time it takes to be “all cleared”.

I have read that the clear and wait strategy takes 3 full clearances to be definitely free of 99% of the hair and maybe one more clearance to kill the 1% that remains.

I have also read that you can clear a large area in 9_12 Months.

Therefore , I am being confused about these 2 information since they are not coherent.

Let’s take an example : I want to clear my legs

1st full clearance : 1st of March 20 Hours ( just an example )

2nd full clearance : March+3 months = 1st of June 10 Hrs

3rd clearance : 1st of June + 3 months = 1st of September.

Normally , On 1st of september I am permanently free of hairs on legs.
However , between 1st March and 1st December ; there is only 6 months not ( 9-12 Months)

Can someone here tell me Where my reasoning is wrong?

Thank you very much and I hope my question is not stupid !

Have a great day.

I believe most who practise the clear and wait strategy wait at least 4 months between clearances in order to catch the maximum number of hair producing follicles in their growth phase. This timing is important.
3x 4 months = 12 months.
The timing of the clearances, is fairly important to the strategy I believe, though, I never work this way, this is my understanding from my discussions from those who do.

Also of note, the people who do this are VERY skilled and have ahigh kill rate and treat ALL hairs, complete clearances. Another electrologist, with less skill and accuracy, or who is not treating every last hair, will have differing results.

The electrologists here doing a 3 clearance method have around 30% effectiveness rate. Most electrologists though aren’t as ‘‘skilled’’ (not sure if I’m using the right word) and have a much lower rate. Mine for example has around 3% and I’m fine with it, since overall the cost will be the same (on the face though).

Seana, I believe that person has a point, technically 3 clearances every 4 months, amounts to only a 8 months spawn of time. I just realized this myself lol!

zapmyface,

How many electrologists “here” did you try to make this general conclusion for 30% effectiveness? By effectiveness I mean kill rate.
How I understand if your electrologist treats 100 hairs only 3 will be killed!!!. Sorry I do not get it.

Dimi

I was simply talking about Michael and Josepha that have several posts on that 3 clearing method, which if I do a simple math regarding total clearings vs. effectiveness, around 30% of the hair is destroyed every time. The kill rate per every single hair would be higher though, but no point in calculating that if in fact 3 clearings end up removing 90%+ of the hair.

And yes technically my electrologist has about 3% effectiveness rate on my face. Around 30 clearings over 8 months every week ends up to 3% hairs destroyed every session, since I’m now about 90% done on that area (sadly not my entire face). It’s not technically a ‘‘kill rate per single hair’’ but overall effectiveness of treatments.

Sorry that I have not carefully read all the posts. However, I’m the person who explained and named the “clear and wait” strategy. Specifically the legs? The defining questions are, "Are you shaving your legs between treatments? Did you present your electrologist completely unshaven legs at the start of your treatments?

zapmyface,

Your calculation for effectiveness is wrong and misleading.
If I make fill clearance every day for 3 months, what is my effectiveness? 1% ?

The only useful parameter in electrology is TTT(Total Treatment Time). We can compare the TTT between 2 operators treating the same area and to conclude which one is more efficient.

Example:
2 operators and each one treats one underarm of the same client.
First operator - TTT-5hrs
Second operator- TTT-10 hrs
We can conclude that the first operator is 2 times more efficient than the second.

TTT is the parameter which includes many variable parameters and one of them (the most important) is the operator’s skills and knowledge.
Please read Michael’s books.

My mistake, I forgot to say that most of my clearings were from 1h weekly sessions. So my TTT (at approx. 90% done) would be around 30h on the area.

I tried to remove my past comments since they might be misleading for some people and didn’t bring much to the topic at hand, however just found out I can’t lol. I basically just wanted to say that the 3 clearance method is not something most electrologists are willing, or are able, to do.

Thank you very much for your answers.

@Michael, Actually I haven’t started electrolysis on my legs yet.And I haven’t shaved them for 8 months ( on purpose since I planned to start electrolysis).Of course , Once I start , I won’t shave between clearances.

My point is that the clear and wait strategy only requires 6 or 8 months to be permanently done.

If I wait 3 months between clearances, then 6 months.
And If I wait 4 months , then 8 months.

Let’s assume I start electrolysis today.

Today : First full clearance
In 4 months : 2nd full clearance
In 8 moths : 3rd and last clearance.

Therefore, it only takes 6 months (if we wait 3 months between each clearance) and 8 month ( if we wait 4 months)? Do you confirm?
Thank you

As far as I’m concerned, I can confirm (and guarantee it). Although in the legs the ideal frequency is 4 months between clearings, especially if you are a woman.

Right on Josefa.

Also, ramo, don’t try to engineer your treatments or do this with a strict mathematical equation. Dont’ “over-think.”

Humans are not “numbers” they are organic bundles of protein … just loosen up the parameters a bit.

There are other factors you should consider as you try to find the best outcome.

Ramo,

I was thinking the same when I decided to start my treatment but I think you’re forgetting something that I could call the “Zero” period or the “pretreatment time”. What experts recommend is to wait at least 4 months until start the treatment in order to have the most amount of hairs visible because not every hair will pop-up at the same time, so if you take that into account now your math is completed.

For example in my case, the last time I waxed my legs was November 9th, 2017, my first session was around 40 hours at the end of February 2018 (4 months waiting).

I’m going to wait 4 months or so for my second clearance (July, 2018 and 9 months)

My third clearance will be booked at the end of November (12 months and a half or perhaps 13 months)

We will see the results at the end of that time, hopefully I will be at least 95% hair free!

by the way: don’t worry about the side effects, are quite normal! It’s been three week since my first clearance and there’s still redness points.
