Clear and wait hair removal in 4 1/2 months?

I tend to give some advice to transgender folks on reddit and every so once in a while someone brings a question that I feel worth sharing.Today is one such day.

Someone brought forth a link today that at first glance, seemed to be decribing a clear and wait strategy, except it doesnt follow the same time frames, and seems to misrepresent the time frames significantly in their favour. This is the page that peaked my interest here:

When you are a transgender person, the thought of doing a beard clearance, getting it done and over with in the short term, is an attractive prospect. I know Josepha has been touting this strategy for many years. What I am seeing on this site however, seems to go beyond that strategy, and promise the impossible.

The very first thing that catches my eye, is the references to killing the hair in the growing phase. This assertion has been disproven by the electrology world but is one of those theories that refuses to die.

What is really throwing me for a loop however, is the assertions this provider is making about time frame. To start with they begin by saying that using a 1 or two hour basis that a total treatment time of 300 hours is needed by other electrologists to complete a beard removal. I could be wrong, but I seem to hear of people accomplishing this in 80-100 hours, and frequently.

However, the assertion that majically by using mass clearances, and spacing them 6-8 weeks apart, they are able to accomplish the entire removal in a 4 1/2 month period over 4 clearances. I have to say, I was this far away from exclaiming “bullshit” when I red this.

Am I the only one who reads this with disbelief? Am I the only one reading the numbers and timeframes described and thinking , that unless they can show clinical evidence this is probably a scam? 4 1/2 months doesnt seem to me be enough time for all the hair cycles to come in. Since we do have a few professionals here who do follow the clear and wait strategy, I’d like to hear from them whether they think what is presented is in any way possible. It all seems to be misleading to me.

PRoof! I’ve become so disillusioned I require proof for everything!

Yeah, a little off the mark as far as hair theory … but it looks like they are having success anyway. My average for a beard is 80 hours too … so they have probably discovered the process on their own?

I don’t buy the 4.5 month period to completion because it’s not fact based … “80 hours over a year’s time … or more” … is more reasonable.

I might have met this physician … but can’t say for sure, only the name seems familiar to me.

Thank you very much for the link, Seana. The key can be here:

“[color:#CC0000]Most patients will lose their shadows permanently after the 4th clearing, as long as they adhere to the 6-8 week clearing interval.[/color]”

The way they present information makes you think the case can be completed in 4 clearing, however, they talk about loss of shadows. Probably, they refer to a significant loss of hair density.

As our beloved Mike once said: “8 hours of effective electrolysis for 4 days in a row, in 80 units of lye hairs, with an average of 500 follicles per cm2? if I do a complete clearance, the fifth day my client end in the emergency room of the nearest hospital”. I agree with his statement. Of course, we are talking about real electrolysis, not about a partial treatment of the follicle.

YES! And I would be in the emergency room too.

But you can do, say, 5-hours per day on body work. I’m doing that right now … back, shoulders, chest, arms and “jumping around” to not stress-out any area in particular. I’m guessing we will have 30 - 35 hours in this 8-day period.

Now, where did I put my “medication?” FOR ME!

(Jossie … looks like the doctor is doing nerve blocks? You think? … I don’t quite understand this “pump” business. But then … this is in Belgium, after all! BTW, Antwerpen is a beautiful old City with the BEST chocolate on earth … sorry Switzerland!)

I heard reference to IV fentanyl though I dont know for certain

Interesting Seana … My friend Dr. Gregg Welsh is a maxillofacial surgeon and I’ll ask him about this … sounds interesting.

I think the trade name we commonly use here “south of the border” is Demerol … (for fentanyl).
