I am currently registered at a school to train in electrolysis. At the school they use Fischer and Clareblend (I have no idea what models. I start on Tuesday). On this board I’ve read so many names being tossed around (Fischer, Aplisus, Silhouet-Tone, Clareblend, etc) and each name makes my head spin just a little more. I know that the talent of the electrologist is more important than the machine, but I do want to pick a good machine that I can “grow into.” I don’t want to spend money on a machine only to find that I want to upgrade to something better within a year or so. On the other hand, the $10,000.00 tag on the Apilus Platinum is a bit out of my reach. Are the other Apilus machines good too or would I be better of with another brand altogether?
So in your opinion what are some of the best machines out there (be specific with models), why and how much are they? Thank you all in advance for your help!
I have used a Clareblend for a short time, in the classroom setting. It was fine and still is, but there have been better developments in professional epilators that run circles around an older model ClareBlend. I bought a Gentronics digital, computerized model that did multiple needle, single needle galvanic, blend and thermolysis, and microflash. Packed it away after three years because I was told there was something better for comfort, so I bought a Silhouet-Tone VMC… fabulous epilator and I got good support from from the company. Next, it was onto the Apilus Platinum and 27Mhz technology… More Fantanstic and better than the ones before!! If something better than the Apilus Platinum comes along, I will get it!
There are several great manufacturers and every electrologist swears by his or her epilator. If I were talking to you face to face, I would say get the best. Clients definitely notice a difference between older epilators and the newer ones like the top of the line Apilus Platinum or Pure. The Apilus models below those are very good, too, I hear. Those who own other brands will have to tell their own reasons for choosing these brands. All I can say is bottom line: clients want the hair off fast, they don’t want it to hurt very much and they want their skin to go back to normal asap! I am able to deliver this to them because of the tools I use along with a little skill
If you are going to spend good money on the best epilator, make sure you can see and invest in quality magnification. Women are bothered by the the amount and length of fine blond hair. Seeing and removing this hair is impossible if you don’t have a good vision setup. I hear more client complaints about other electrologists who can’t SEEEEEE! So pony-up and get some custom-fitted magnification and they will come seven days a week if you want to work that hard. Save up and do it right would be my advise. Perfect your insertions or no epilator will be worth the price.
Thank you so much for your reply. How much is the Silhouet-Tone VMC? Is that the one that is about $3500? Would you choose that over the lower model Apilus? For instance Silhouete-Tone VMC versus Apilus SX-500?
How about Silhouete-Tone VMC versus Apilus Senior II?
Are the lower model Apilus great on comfort level as well?
Anyone have any info on the new Clareblend Elegance?
Here’s how I personally would choose, in this order: The Apilus Platinum or Pure first. If you are uneasy about the expense (they offer financing), then go to the Apilus SX-500 followed by the Silhouet-Tone VMC. These two epilators are about the same, but the SX-500 has one small advantage over the VMC. Not a biggie, though. The VMC costs about $3,500, but Prestige Electrolysis offered me a discount when I bought my last one in 2005. Then you can continue down the model line and compare. Go to www.dectro.com and look at their chart of comparison. The best sensation is delivered by the 27Mhz Platinum and Pure. The lower end Apilus’s are fine, but again the best sensation factor is thumbs up for the Plat and Pure. Clients don’t want this to hurt very much and when it doesn’t, then they lay on the table longer and thus complete the process sooner and you make more money to pay for the more expensive epilator sooner! It’s all a circle that justifies the expense.
I would love to hear about Clareblend’s Elegance. I’ve been asking around for awhile, but never get any comments. If there is someway that you could get treated with an Elegance and then a Platinum, by the same electrologist, then that would be deliciously interesting!
Can anyone answer bf’s last question about the Elegance?
If you are on a budget, you could get the Apilus Senior II and later when you have the money, you can add upgrades to it that would make it rival an Apilus SX-500.
Don’t be afraid of buying a used machine. Most don’t have much actual usage under their belts, and anything that would need fixing would be done with +/- $100 in most cases.
I want to make a special effort to say that Instantrons and Fischers and Hinkels, and Clareblends are good machines that perform well, in the hands of learned practitioners. What elevates the machines most talked about here are the automation and comfort features that bring a new practitioner to the point of good work a little bit sooner, and the learned practitioner to a whole other level of achievement.
Well said, dear James. I don’t have any experience with Fischers, but I know that Barbara is a rock-solid leader in our proffesion and if she loves her Fischer, then so do I. Our mantra here on hairtell is skill is number one, followed by skill in using the epilator of choice. I ditto what James said about epilator choice in the above quote.
I have used Fischer and Hinkel machines… come to think of it, there are few manufacturers machines with which I have not worked. This is why I can say that they all remove the hairs. I can also say that some have certain quirks, and some have a certain sting, and some have a feature or two here and there that have some significant value if utilized properly.
For the record, I love the Fischers. If I were on a budget, or a home user, I would be just fine with a Fischer. AFter all, you would never have gotten the Apilus, if there had not been a Fischer
