chemical peel before or after electrolysis?

After being on retin-a (tretinoin gel) for a while to treat my acne, my dermatologist suggested that i get a light chemical peel to get rid of the left over hyper-pigmentation spots. Ive been waiting a long time to get this peel but I also finally have the money to start electrolysis. How soon after my first electrolysis session can I safely have the peel done? Or if I have the peel first how long should I wait to have electrolysis done?

You should ask your dermatologist.

Are you still using Retin A?
With its use, you experience increased proliferation of epidermal cells and I am curious if you have seen any reduction at all in hyperpigmentation. I just need a little clarification.

A light peel is a good suggestion - If you are no longer using Retin A, then perhaps a glycolic peel is good but the person administering it has to see your skin and get some background data. If you are still on Retin A, then I would suggest a very mild papaya or mild bromelain enzyme peel applied without steam. But again, the practitioner needs to look at your skin and get a history. In any event, there should be masks applied after your peel and the best ingredients to address hyperpigmentation are kojic acid and licorice root. Finishing off with a pure aloe mask with multivitamins is a good idea.

If you want to start with electrolysis, wait an entire week after electrolysis before your peel.
If you want to start with a peel, wait 48 hours after your light peel and then have your electrolysis.

Thanks for all of the great information. I think I’m going to hold off on the peel for a little while to see how my skin reacts to electrolysis. Then I will decide if I want to get the peel. I think the peel is called vitalize peel and it’s suppose to be gentle according to my derm. I do get good results on hyperpigmentation with retin- a alone but my derm thinks it will be good to do a peel to get things fading even faster

Vitalize is a brand name. Essentially, it is an acid peel.
I am curious, what does your dermatologist say about
electrolysis and timing of your peel.

I think Retin A may be photosensitive, which means you shouldn’t use laser while using it.

I havnt asked her yet but definetly will. I’m only having laser on my legs right now and I use the retin-a on my face.thanks though

After your first electrolysis session, it’s best to wait at least 7-10 days before getting a facial peel. If you have the peel first, wait 7-10 days before starting electrolysis. This allows your skin time to recover and reduces the risk of irritation. Always consult your dermatologist for personalized advice based on your skin’s condition.
