Hi I am thinking of having the hair from the cheekbones removed, I am getting sick of plucking it takes so long. I was just wondering, if I was to get this done, would it leave any marks on the skin, i really don’t want people knowing that I have been in for laser treatment? My other question is would I have to stop the plucking prior to the treatment, and if after the treatment, the hair grows back, would I be able to pluck this away??? Thanks,
I’m assuming you’re male based on your name. How old are you? How many hairs do you have to remove? Are you talking about the hair that’s in the area below the eyes, above your beard line? If so, the best way to treat this would be with electrolysis, not laser as precision is needed and there usually isn’t a lot of dense hair. Laser is an overkill for this part.
Hi Yes I am male based, and i am talking bout hair below the eyes and also above the beard line, basically all the are up to the eye. The hairs do grow back rapidy, i.e after a couple of days, and that i was i am always continuosly plucking, would this not be suitable for laser then?
If the hairs are thick enough, laser may be an option. Electrolysis would be safer. Any treatments near the eyes need to be handled very carefully.
Laser won’t be able to provide precision and make the line look natural. Plus, it’s an overkill for that little hair.
Electrolysis is a much better way to go for this situation. The electrologist will be able to pick and choose the hairs and create a natural look.
Dave, LAgirl is very helpful on this forum but is not a practitioner. You should schedule a consultation with an electrologist and/or laser center to get an idea of what would best suit your needs as there is no “one method fits all” fix. Consultations are free and last about 30 min. In some states electrologists perform both laser and electrolysis. Both modalities will be uncomfortable on the face. Whichever you choose make sure the practitioner is experienced.
Can you post a clear photo of the area, so we can better comment on? I did LHR on my cheekbones and I more or less know what to expect.
The problem with many consultations (if you don’t do research ahead of time) is that people are running a business. And unfortunately, many recommend things based on how much money they can get out of you and not necessarily what’s in your best interests. Stay away from places that give you a sales pitch instead of unbiased information (which usually includes some negatives).
Hi Dave,
have you decided to have laser or sth. else done in the mean time ? If yes, I’d be interested to learn how it went.
I also have hair growing above the cheek bone…I’m male, 28yrs, and these hairs have started to grow maybe half a year ago, to my surprise. My beard line keeps moving up to the cheek bone as well, and I’m not too happy about it.
I am 28 y/old male too. I’ve tried laser on my cheek bones 3 times in the past. I’ve got satisfying results; laser helped reducing density of area. However I’ve had a downside in the mean time. I’ve had a sharp contrast between the cheek area and the side of the face below the nose bottom level. I’ve went ahead like this for about a year; in this period it looked like I plucked all the hairs on my cheek bones constantly. The thing is density transition of hair was bizarre. So I got tired of this and started laser treatments on the rest of face to achieve a natural look.
My case is just an example what you may have to face if you go with hair removal. Just a caution, so may take precautions.
Hello vklepil,
thanks for sharing your experiences. It’s a little hard for me to picture what it must have looked like…( sharp contrast). Isn’t a sharp contrast most common ?
Until recently, I’ve had a moreless “regular” beard for a middle European guy with brown hair and blue eyes, with the beard line not running right under the eyes but way below it, like in this picture ( don’t have a digital cam, lol).
George’s upper beard line runs diagonally over the cheek…that’s the way most men seem to have it. But since it bothered you, you are obviously speaking of something else…maybe you could explain it.
Thanks a lot.
I don’t have a clear photo of how it looked like, but to give you an idea of how dense my beard is I am putting here a photo of my side face. Note that I’ve taken 3 laser treatments for this area not including touch-ups. I mean it was more dense before, maybe more than twice as much dense.

Well, I have pale skin and very dark hair, so even the tiniest amount of hair just stands out. I had the George’s hair pattern, but all the beard much darker than his mustache. So, all that dark hair abruptly followed by an almost hair free cheek bones looked not normal. I hope you have a picture now.
If your beard is as much as George’s, than it may work for you. Just decide it for yourself.
Hi vklepil,
I tried to view the image, but it is empty. I must admit I still don’t have the full picture since I always thought that a sharp contrast would be ideal, but maybe I’m wrong. Are you caucasian, if I may ask ? I have seen men of middle eastern origin have a different hair pattern…some have a very “high” beard line, i.e. up to the cheek bone…others again look like George ( sharp contrast) even though their beard is much more dense.
Regards
Sorry about the picture, there must have been something wrong with the server, because I checked it before I posted. Anyway, I uploaded it again, however it does not show the beard line.

I’ve found a very low quality photo of mine showing the beard line. It’s a 5 o’clock shadow. At the time of the picture I’d only had my cheek bones treated, I hadn’t touched the lower part below the beard line. That’s what I mean by the ‘sharp contrast’.

I’m Eurasian and the photo above is my original beard line just without the cheekbone hairs. And yes, my original beard was denser than %99 of people.
Hi vklepil, ok, thanks for attaching the pictures. Now I can see what you mean. It’s good to hear that it worked out for you in the end. I wonder how the laser is applied to the cheek bone…pretty delicate area next to the eyes. Did you go down the laser route right away, or did the therapist also consider electrolysis ?
Anyway, I will have to see what options are out there, I guess.
For cheekbones they use the same procedure as they use for any other body area. From my experience, as the laser hits skin it is like a transparent red layer is drawn in front of your sight for a split second. You instantly get the feeling that dazzling might be harmful to your eyes, however so far I haven’t had any visual impairment and I think it is safe enough. Of course you should wear your safety glasses in case any accident occurs. By the way, once when they were treating my arms, I was holding my arm firmly in the air for the practitioner’s convenience, and a portion of one pulse slipped off of my arm and hit my cheekbone. Although I was wearing my glasses it was so close and I doubt that glasses could save my eye.
I didn’t consider electrolysis. It’s just that laser seemed the more practical one and the one that will generate less side-effects. So, I plunged in. I am happy with the results for upper and lower cheeks, but I wouldn’t recommend laser hair removal for goatee and mustache area due to patchy results.
For your situation, electrolysis would probably work best since precision matters.
ok, thanks.
