changing lasers - Lightsheer to Apogee

Hi

I’ve had 8 or 9 treatments on my chest (male) with Lightsheer and to be honest, i’m pretty pleased with the results. The joules(?) have gradually increased from 26 to 32. The hair is now much finer and there’s much less. I guess i’ve gone from 100% thick dark hair to more like 30% and it’s much finer. I’d like to reduce it a little bit more.

The clinic has got a new Apogee and the technician said that as my hair is now finer, the Apogee would be better to treat this (finer but dark) hair.

I get the impression that the technician thinks that we’ve done all we can do with the Lightsheer, so let’s give the Apogee a whirl - or maybe she does genuinely does believe Apogee is now better suited.

Could there be something to this logic? - is it good to try a different laser, or is it likely that I’m now at a stage where we can’t really reduce any more other than by electrolysis.

I’m Skin Type II dark brown hair.

Thanks

John

There is logic to it but as to the benefits it’s hard to tell. The reason they want to go to Apogee is because it’s an Alexandrite laser where LightSheer is a Diode. Alexandrite’s are the best for finer hair, they can treat hair that’s a bit finer than other lasers can. In terms of the difference though I’m not really sure as I’ve never used LightSheer. For example, if you treated one underarm with LightSheer and one with an Alexandrite at the highest settings possible with a technician that has perfect technique (overlapping, compression on LightSheer etc), I’m not sure if there would be a huge difference but someone else would know better.

The Apogee is a better laser than LightSheer to begin with though as it can treat the finer hairs. The only thing is I’m not sure if that benefit would be more seen if you had started with it vs switching Either way though if your clinic has Apogee then there’s no reason I’d want them to treat me with LightSheer.

If you can post photos though it would help, since no laser can treat super fine hair, so photos would help us determine if electrolysis is best (which after 9 sessions with a laser is probably your best bet). I’d suggest maybe doing one session with the Apogee to see what you think.

Can you post a photo of the current hair? It’ll help us judge whether it’s coarse enough for any laser at this point.

Apogee alex is good, but settings matter a lot. You should find out how aggressive they’re willing to be.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies. Here’s a photo of my chest (close up) so you can get an idea how thick the hair is. This is one of the thicker patches that’s left and it’s relatively thin (at least from where i started) and not dark-dark, more medium brown, though I think that’s the color it has always been.

What do you think? Apogee or wasting my time? I’m might give it one go, just to see… If so, any suggestions on settings as my technician is usually pretty aggressive, but would like to know what we should probably be using (this will be my first time with Apogee).

Thanks!

John.

This hair is too fine for any significant results with laser in my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback, LAgirl - you’ve saved me some money.
