Challenging Dectro officials

Well, as you all may know I am studying electrolysis hair removal in Spain. I was lucky to meet two Dectro specialists in Spain and one in France.

Let’s begin with the first Dectro specialist I met, the french one. She decided to go in a Dectro school in Canada. After her two-mouths training there, she came back with her certificate and the feeling to be an excellent specialist.

She told me, she removed all hair in any part of the body without using anesthetic because she claims her clients don’t feel any pain at all. The treatment should not produce discomfort. There she was using the XCell pro and the senior I.
Back in France she is working with a spanish machine I very much like, and I know very good. Shed uses to remove underarm hair with Flash modalities from 35% to 45%. Of course with this setting, it doesn’t hurt at all, but… you are doing nothing.

She told me this is the way she learned in Dectro school. She claims her working is painfree because she is very “organized” and she works exclusively in anagen phase. Moreover she doesn’t want to induce scabs, because according to her, this is a sign of overtreatment.

Second specialist I met was the official distributor of Apilus in Spain. She works also as an electrologist in Madrid and several cities in Spain. She is also the official Dectro teacher who can do training courses and deliver official Dectro certificate.
In the Public Institute of Málaga, we were priviled to receive her in school. She wanted to present us the new XCell machine from Apilus (the famous painfree machine).

I could not resist to ask her a demonstration. We don’t have visitors from Madrid everyday !

So, she performed a demonstration of electrolysis on the cheek of a student. I saw very very closely. I already had my opinion but I wanted to be sure, so after the class, I asked with discretion to the student/model : did you notice something when the electrologist removed the hair ?
“Yes, I noticed she was plucking the hair” she answered.

Last but not least, the third Dectro electrologist. We had a school trip in a private center where this Dectro specialist offered us a training course. Fortunatly I was able to record a little. I put english subtitles so everybody here could enjoy the training. I would like to add a precision : this practitioner teached us that electrolysis should not be painfull at all, and even should be a pleasant, comfortable treatment.

Before being student, I was a consumer and I represent myself in the client’skin because the client, as I did, have to do a big effort to pay the treatment.

People teaching to pluck hairs should be out of the business because they deliberatly know they should not pluck hair but they still do it.

This is called cheating the client who trusts you.

Every year, students obtain a Dectro certificate and learn electrolysis in this way, just as you saw in the video. This people learn to pluck hair.

Moreover, this kind of teacher should think about resign from their posts because they are confusing students. I am very lucky to know Josefa and she teached me how to get the better results possible. A lot of people don’t have this opportunity, this is frustrating, sad and completly unfair.

DeeFahey adviced me to “challenge” this three Dectro officials to perform a treatment on me in order to do my own conclusions. Sorry DeeFahey but I would not pay 80€/hour to pluck hair.

Now we know why electrology industry was decimated by Laser industry. Mass consumer was too exhausted to pay extremely high prices for high tech slow tweezing.

It will only take a few Renascence Men/Women to spread good training to save the industry, especially when the last bastion of better skilled electrologists will start to retire.

The only electrology school in NYC is Dectro certified but it produces very poorly trained pluckers who charge standard rates. One electrologist told me she tried hiring younger hands who all graduate from that electrology school but she just could not spend so much time retraining several that came to her with very poor theory and hands on skills. She was afraid to lose clients. But schools like that hold monopoly on almost non existent electrology schools in the U.S. and other countries. So options for well meaning students who want to learn real deal electrology are out of options but to experiment on poor clients until they develop the skills that schools should have taught them.

Looks like she’s unscrewing the hair. Unfortunately, you can’t "unscrew’ the client from this sort of treatment. Can you?

Perhaps the most disconcerting aspect of this sort of "thing’ is the absolute certitude expressed by the now-expert in "all matters hair removal.’ Forget that I have 40 years of experience … nope, this newbie now knows more than I do. (And, so do the engineers and designers who have never removed a single hair in their entire life.)

But they know more, and when engaged in conversations with me, express downright contempt. As my very Italian New Yorker father would say, "Michael, its’a no f…… use!’

Well that was a depressing video… On so many levels
Why create a fantastic machine then ‘teach’ students to puck!! Surely Dectro are not teaching this, when I picked my unit I was given a demo but immediately had to go much higher than with the el’s. 45% could get the hair out but the timing would need to be higher to give more el, and displacement may be used this can help with comfort(pain) levels.

Well I dont know what the students are taught at Dectro montreal but what I do know they are not taught to pluck. In the hour or two I spent at the school a few weeks ago they had me perfecting a variable depth technique in synchro in very short order which obtained nice releases consistently, but I would agree that they push an anogen only strategy that I dont believe is accurate.

Please contact Dectro if you feel so strongly about their erroneous statements. Passionate people should not limit their audience to a website discussion. You can change the world, Adrien by going straight to the "horses"mouth!

Hmmm… those are strong accusations. Again, I think it would be so helpful for you to alert Dectro about what you observed! I know you are passionate about the consumer not being tweezed, so I would encourage you to notify Dectro about your concerns. I would be glad to send them this link, if you want.

Are you saying that all students that graduate from Dectro are tweezing clients?

Too bad YOU personally did not experience a treatment with any of these Dectro officials because then YOU would have been able to ask them why you felt like you were being tweezed.

It is preposterous that some think students are taught to pluck, in my opinion. I agree with you and other esteemed colleagues about anagen only.

If you took the time to see the video and read the subtitles (in english), you will see the Dectro specialist explaining why she has to tweeze the hair.

Well, I don’t know every students from Dectro, but every Dectro student and professional I already met pluck hair; moreover all students in my class learned what they saw during the training course, so all students of this year pluck hair and all promotions of students pluck hair since the current teacher works in the Public Institute (it is been a while).

I did take the time, Adrien, but that’s not what I am referring to. I was asking why YOU didn’t volunteer to experience the demonstration for yourself? That’s what I suggested on another thread. Did you challenge what the instructor said about having to tweeze the hair?

If it is about to know why they tweeze hair, I already have the answer as I explained here.

You see, you are the best judge of sensation issues and the plucking issue, not to say the model wasn’t, but you would have been in a good position to question what YOU felt.

Fortunatly I am not blind, so I can use my eyes.

… but you can’t feel with your eyes. How does it [color:#FF0000]feel[/color] when the burst of energy releases under the skin if the energy level is increased, so the hair does slide out with no traction. Perhaps they would have done that if you complained about the tweezing and then you would have been able to say, “this isn’t painless like you claimed it would be!”. Capice?

You are right, I should have asked to be a model to experience for myself what my eyes were watching and thus confirm the words of the Dectro specialist warning that she would have to pluck hair.

I doubt that Adrien be able to change any idea or belief of Dectro’s people. In 2007, my friends, the Teruel marriage, visited Dectro facilities in Quebec City. They showed the results of our clinical trial which clearly was showing that the treatment in telogen is as effective as in anagen. Today, 9 years later, their trainers continue with their erroneous beliefs (Except Johanne Fortier, perhaps).

There is no worse blind than the one who do not want to see …

Maybe next time you could ask to have a personal demonstration. Electrolysis, performed correctly, is very tolerable (and effective) with the xCell Pro, but I wouldn’t describe it as painless.

I would seriously contact Jean-Louis at Dectro in California at 1-888-332-8763 to voice your concerns and be involved in positive change. It’s very easy to gripe and moan about things we know are wrong, but rarely do we take it a step further to interact with the ones we should be conversing with to perhaps make constructive changes.

According to the testimony of Josefa, it seems that there has already been a try, in vain.

Nothing is in vain, Adrien. That doesn’t mean that anagen and resistance issues shouldn’t be addressed again. Maybe it will take 9 more years? There is proof on video’s that these teaching practices are not agreed on by skilled professionals. Never give up discussing the issues that you are so passionate about. Hairtell is a safe place to do have this discussion, but will it change anything? Sometimes it takes more effort, more than one time to sell your point of view. You of all people can win the day Josefa, but if you do not desire to engage with Dectro anymore, perhaps Adrien could take on the giant. He seems very capable of doing so. At least, that is my suggestion for moving forward to correct bad practices.

By the way, the topic of this thread is Challenging Dectro Officials. I don’t understand how you challenge anyone if you don’t talk to them. The folks at Dectro are very polite. I guarantee you - they don’t bite. Things cant change if you don’t talk to them. Go for it Adrien!
