Candidate for electrolysis on the face - pics

My story in this rather gigantic post: http://www.hairtell.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/108699/Facial_hair_stimulation_by_las.html#Post108699

And here are the pictures of the areas of my face that bother me (not just my chin). Only my chin area was stimulated by laser, though. And I do not wax, shave or pluck any area of my face. I am only bleaching the hair chins that are growing.

Chin, 7 weeks after laser stimulation (3 sessions of laser total in the area):

The left sideburn:

I know it is probably impossible to determine correctly over the internet and from pictures alone, but can anyone give an estimate of how many sessions it would take to clear those areas? The one that is bothering me the most is the chin area because it was stimulated by laser and I have no idea how it will end up. One of the few electrologysts I found in my area use the Apilus machine, if that info helps.

Also, good thing I don’t have a constant clear view of my sideburns because they really look ugly. I expect to start treatment on my chin area and seeing how it goes, I’d like to do the area beside my lips (there are a few darker hairs there but most of them are blond and thin) and the sideburns, which are more noticeable.

Thank you!

Those areas could be cleared in one treatment, but that is with the electrologist selecting the accelerated vellus and possibly thinning the vellus - so you might not consider it “cleared” because there will be some remaining hairs. (Although hardly visible to others.)

If you were to not explain that you are bothered by the amount you have, many electrologists might work 15 to 30 minutes to “clear” you.

The minute I give a client an estimate of how many treatments it might take, they take that number (and often turn it into the number three!) and expect to be done in two months.

This is what you can expect: The first clearing will take more time than subsequent clearings, and clearing should be progressively shorter over time. Keep in mind that hormonal changes might occur that turn on follicles that have never awakened before. So…pregnancy and menopause might bring you some new hairs later in your life.

Thank you for your reply.

What do you mean by “thinning” though? Hm, I do not mean I want to be completely hair free (as I am aware that might be one hell of a task, especially in the face, such a hormonal area), I just want it to be less noticeable. I guess what I want is just a natural look with less hair.

I hope I can stand the pain of treatment though. One of the electrologysts I found has the Apilus equipment which I read is faster and more comfortable for treatment. Do correct me if I’m wrong though.

Yes, as for hormonal issues I still have to have some tests done. And, yes, a woman undergoes many hormonal changes in life, especially during pregnancy. We shall see how this challenge goes =)

I think she refers to select only those hairs more apparent and slightly reduce the density of the preauricular area, so that your face looks more homogeneous and to clear the shadow in your sideburns.

If this is the strategy of your electrologist, this is not a bad strategy. In the hands of a moderately experienced practitioner, a first clearance should not take more than 6 hours, 90 minutes for each sideburn, 1 hour to accelerated hair under your chin, and 1 hour for each cheek.

With this first treatment, you should be satisfied for a good while (at least 1 year). Note that these accelerated hairs will not stay as they are now, they will continue being stimulated, so if you delete them now, you will prevent a bigger problem. At this time your hairs are very easy to kill. In the hypothetical case, quite likely by the way, (sorry but it is better to accept the facts to be prepared) that stimulation occurs in follicles that have not been treated, 1 hour per year will be sufficient to keep the problem under control.

I hope everything goes well and soon you can share with us your story of success.

One last thing. It is desirable that you have a test on a small area. Expect some degree of redness and some degree of inflammation if the treated hairs are very close to each other, but the scabs should not be larger than a speck of pepper. Do not forget that you should not feel that the hair is being forced out.

Glad to read that you aren’t wishing for completely hairless skin.

My recommendation would be that an hour of treatment would provide the clearance you are looking for. In a month or two you would do 30 to 45 minutes and repeat this at similar intervals. I suggest this for your comfort during and after treatment (not that it is intolerable or even that uncomfortable) AND for the purpose of finances and time.

Oh I see. Thank you for the explanation.

The only practitioner I found in my country that is part of the American Association of Electrology has 16 years of experience. It sounds good to me (and there aren’t many electrologists around here). Anyways, nothing like an informative appointment and I’m gonna try to schedule one for next Saturday.

I see, that still sounds like quite a few hours. Guess I’ll start slow first with a test area and then I’ll see how things go.

Yes, unfortunately this whole are under my chin was stimulated by the damned laser. I’m also gonna see about something to control my hormones (I bet I have some hormone troubles, to top it all off, but at least it’s not as bad as PCOS).

So, in short, I feel the needle entring the skin but I am not supposed to feel the hair being pulled out? Guess I’ll figure that out when I feel it.

Thank you for your reply!

Well, I like to remain realistic and I do not want to feel like a porcelain doll. If these velus on my face weren’t quite so long I wouldn’t be bothered by them as much. Despite most of them being blond, they are long and some of them are darker.

I see. Thanks for the suggestion. I am unsure how much the electrologyst I found charges, I just hope it’s not beyond my possibilities.
