Candela Gentlelase vs Cynosure Vectus: Beard

Hi there,

In the past I’ve had laser hair removal done on my beard (face and neck) using the Candela Gentlelase (Alexandrite) and had really good results. Since then I’ve been having electrolysis to remove what was left over. The only area of my beard that didn’t seem to have a reduction was the goatee area.

I’m wondering if I would have better reduction with the Cynosure Vectus (Class 4 Diode) laser? I’m a Skin Type II with dark hair and some grey.

Has anyone out there had experience with the Vectus for beard reduction?

How many laser treatments did you have on your face? Are you saying you tried finishing up with electrolysis and it failed to remove the chin hair? You can try a diode laser (can’t be compared to alexandrite since they’re different category of laser) but the area you describe has always been a challenging area for laser to remove. Diode penetrates deeper than Alexandrite. I think you would be better off finding and electrologist with experience treating that area and save yourself time and money on gambling with laser again.

I had six rounds of laser on my face and was happy with the amount of reduction. Over time the hair on my face and neck remained sparse, but the hair in my goatee area came back with the same level of density as before treatment.

I’ve been having electrolysis to remove what wasn’t removed by laser. With electrolysis - we’re getting to the point where working on my goatee area is next. I’m looking for a way to lessen the density and therefore have less electrolysis on that area.

Also, for the record there have been studies comparing the various types of laser available for hair removal and they have different levels of effectiveness based on a variety of factors - so yes, I do think it’s worthwhile comparing them… i.e. diode vs alexandrite, etc…
