I have a question about efficiency of laser hair removal depending on whether the machine is old or newer.
There are 2 salons in my area, one newer and kind of fancy, but charges twice higher than another one with older machines.
I am not sure 100%, but it seems like I always get better results when go to the new salon. Is there such a thing as different level of efficiency depending on the age of machine?
Hi there, this is the first time I have posted on this site. My name is Carmella Hammond, I am an electrologist and laser technician in London Ontario.
Generally speaking, as long as an older machine is maintained and calibrated on a regular basis it can provide an effective treatment. Having said that, older machines are sometimes outdated technology, laser hair removal machines have improved over the years.
If the business with the newer machine provides better results I would patronize that business.

While the knowledge base has increased, laser hair removal technology itself has not changed much in the 10 years. It is the skill of the practitioner using the machine and matching the proper wavelength to your skin type that makes the difference.
Thank you both for your comments:)
“matching the proper wavelength to your skin type” - I thought that alexandrite laser has a standard fixed 755nm wavelengh?..
They both used 16mm/16 joules. Do not know about pulse width though.
What pulse width would give the best result for 2-3 skin type?
There is no 16mm. It’s 15mm and 18mm on GentleLASE. GentleLASE pulse width is fixed at 3ms. Max on 15mm is 30J and on 18mm 20J. So those settings can be low if it’s 15mm, but good on 18mm.
