I have both of these options available to me, which would you suggest I go with?
BTW, I’m skin type 3 and my hair is dark brown / black; I’ve had sessions on my back before and I’d like to continue with becoming hair free in the region.

Is your hair still coarse and dense?
GentleYAG is generally a better machine, but for your skin type GentleLASE would be better.
It’s getting rather fine now (on a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 is the thickest, I’d say my thickest hairs are 5 and the majority are 2s and 3s), but it’s still grows rather long.
Can you post a photo? It needs to be coarse. Otherwise, you need electrolysis. The number of hairs and its length are not relevant.
Yup! But I’m going to have to wait a couple of weeks until it grows out.
Here are some close up shots of some hair growth on the lower half of my upper arms. It’s fairly similar to growth on my back.
This hair is very fine and not appropriate for laser at all. You need electrolysis. That’s the only thing that would work.
