This question is for the DIY’ers who live north of the 49’th parallel.
I’m still quite a way from ever putting needle to skin, many hours yet to read bothe here and elsewhere, pour over Michels book and probably do some "no power " insertions for many hours until I get the hang of it. In short, I’m starting out.and paying attention to the warnings, heeding advice. In the meantime I go to a school to have my electrolysis done, and it gives me feedback into what is…and isnt being done properly.
In the meantime I’ve purchased an older machine, bt for the most part dont have alot of intention to use it until I’m quite a bit more knowledgeable and comfortable with what I’m doing.
I had planned on ordering out from texas Electrolysis for probes, something I may do yet.My machine hasnt even arrived yet and I do want to make sure I have a few around, at least for prqactising and getting the feel for insertions when I feel I have enough knowledge. As I woud have to pay shipping from Texas Electrolysis , I wanted to see what was available for electrolysis supply locally. I ran into a snag, and this is where my question comes from.
Today I got in contact with a local bricks and mortar ( and online) electrolysis supply place. I didnt think I would run into problems, I know people who purchase from medical supply places all the time and dont have any issues ordering things like needles. I’ve done my bit of research, even been to the canada trades site to check what requirementss there are to perform electrolysis, and the answer I came up with was there didnt seem to be any. I’m not in a financial position to attend a school at the moment, but it cant really stop me from studying.
I was surprised then when the local supply place said I would need to bring a copy of my certificate and ID or certtificate of graduation from vocational/beuty school before I could order needles, along with ID. I’m curious if other DIY’ers in canada, especially Ontario, have run into this before, if it’s a common problem ordering supplys like needles, magnifying loops , etc.
It’s easy enough for a DIY’er to buy a machine , especially used. I’m thinking it might have been just this place and that this isnt common, but I’m wonderign if I’m going to have trouble ordering needles when I’m ready? I was doubly surprised, because there doesnt seem to be any required curriculum for beuty schools to follow. Here they seem to be not alot more than self directed curriculum, and I know for a fact that at the place I deal with, their standards to carry out electrolysis, and experience level, seems to be extrordinarily low.
Unfortunately the cost of the courses at my local place I have my “professional” electrolysis done at is around $8000 and outside my budget.
Had anyone else in canada had trouble getting supplies? I know I can order some off ebay, but that seriously limits my selection especially on size and type of probe, I’ve mostly seen some Sterex two piece and not sure if they would fit my Silouette Tone SB2 at all or well. Am I likely to have the same issue if I try and order from someplace like Texas Electrolysis?Or was this just one place being difficult?
