Can you tweeze hairs throughout your elec treatments?

I want to remove unwanted hair by my eyebrow. I pluck it out now, and want to know if I can continue tweezing if i start electrolysis in the area. I just don’t want any hairs to show up there anymore.

thanks!

Sure, you can tweeze but your electrologist will not be able to track progress as efficiently; also your overall treatment time will be extended as hair can only be treated as it presents itself and by tweezing, you are delaying the time those hairs can get treatment.

Hi Arlene,

A related question. I have started electrolysis on my upper lips, lower lips, chin & side burns however I dont want to get it done on my eyebrows. I always do threading on my eyebrows (once in a few months)

Does twezing/threading on the eyebrows in any way stimulate hair follicles on the parts where I am getting electrolysis done?

Thanks,
June

Dear June,

I don’t know of any scientific study done that would determine if mass tweezing (threading) eyebrows stimulates hair growth on other areas of the face but I surmise that it does not however, stranger things have occured.

Do you see a change in hair growth in these other areas?
Have you had your hormone levels checked?

All the best,

Arlene

Hi Arlene,

I have been doing electrolysis for the last 2 months. I am already seeing that the hair growth has slowed on the areas that have been worked on

In these 2 months I have not threaded my eyebrows, I was planning to go this week

About hormonal levels, I have not checked. I am planning to go for a full body check up in the next few months, will get it checked at that time… Why did you ask about hormonal levels, is it recommended to get that checked for electrolysis?

Thanks,
June

Hi June,

Before I had electrolysis started on my eyebrows, I had the brows shaped by waxing. This gave me a chance to see if I liked the look and since then I’ve been having the eyebrows gone over to get any hairs coming up to the surface at my normal electrology appointments.

This gives two advantages in this regard;

  1. If I didn’t like the look, I could let the hairs grow back and then get them reshaped again.

  2. The hairs that are now poking their cute little hair shafts above the skin are anagen hairs and can be effectively treated.

As to threading or waxing during electrolysis, my best advice is to not do this. When you pluck a hair, it can take up to 8 weeks to reappear. It’s a lot better to get the shape you want and then let the electrologist take care of any hairs outside of the shape as they reappear. Plucking during electrolysis is not a good idea as it will take much longer to get the hairs permanently eliminated. If a hair becomes too noticeable between treatments, clip it short, but leave enough for the electrologist to get a pair of tweezers on.

Hope this helps,
Joanie

Hi June,

Since you indicate several areas on your face where hair is growing, if these hairs are coarse and you are female, I believe it is a good idea to have your hormone levels checks. Personally, I like to know why things happen.

All the best.

Arlene, I think the hair growth might be due to waxing on my face & not hormonal, but you never know… I will get my hormonal levels checked soon…

JoanieH, Not sure if I framed my q properly earlier… I am NOT planning to get elecrolysis done on my eyebrows. I generally thread once in a few months & would like to continue doing that

However, I am not sure if that would stimulate hair growth on my chin, upper lips & side burns… I dont tweeze or wax any of areas where electrolysis is being done…

Thanks!
June

I wouldn’t suggest tweezing if you are undergoing treatment. You are not going to be able be successful if you do so because treatment is going to take a lot longer since there’s going to be no way to track progress. Also, if the hair cannot be seen there is no way to do the process.

Hi June,

I think that I could have framed my reply better as I did not assume that you were getting the brows done. I was trying to relate the one type of thing that can be done with waxing to facilitate electrology. Waxing is not permanent, but electrology always will accomplish some degree of permanancy. Waxing an area a few times to get an area shaped is one thing but repeated waxing, over time, will generally do more harm than good.

Outside of that, I really don’t recommend waxing or tweezing as a general method of hair removal as, in most people, it does stimulate hair growth in the areas being tweezed. Also, if you tweeze an area being treated with electrology, or even laser, you will achieve less than ideal results as the hairs that need to be treated will not be there to be treated.

Sorry for any confusion (My fault). Chalk it off to a long day and too little sleep!
