I’d like to know if the staff’s listed credentials seem appropriate for laser hair removal. I also reviewed the laser FAQs here on HairTell but still can’t tell if there’s anything else I should ask about when I go for a consultation.
Credentials should probably be the least of your concerns. You should find out what laser they have and it’s most appropriate for your skin type. Then if so, have a consultation and ask them questions we have listed in the sticky post. That’s how you’ll be able to tell if they’re knowledgeable.
From this site, several things stand out - not in a good way. They use less than optimal lasers/IPLs for hair removal (Harmony IPL, Sonata, and Soprano) and they advertise pain-free hair removal (which doesn’t exist at effective settings). Nothing about the credentials states any experience in hair removal in particular - everything is just cosmetic surgery/procedures stuff.
lagirl: thanks so much! I knew from your other posts that “painless” hair removal is nonexistant, but I couldn’t tell if their lasers were appropriate.
dfahey: yes, I thought so too.
Choice: From what I’ve read online, I think my skin type is IV (medium skin, rarely burns, tans easily, with black hair). I live in Asheville, and can go to any office in the surrounding area if it’s not too far. Any rec’s would be great!
Also, I just called another office and their pricing was much higher than what’s listed on this site. For example, they charge $275 per session for lip & chin, while Complete Laser Clinic (link above) charges $100. What’s a suitable/average range?
How many hairs? Unless you have very large areas full of dense hair, electrolysis may be a better method. If you can tweeze it, you can probably get electrolysis easily and laser would be an overkill.
The only problem I have with electrolysis is that it seems more painful than laser, or more of a prolonged pain in that it treats hair by hair rather than a patch at once. I do tweeze the area, takes an hour for chin and lip, but doable.
What would be a suitable price range for such an area? Any rec’s for places in or around Asheville, NC?
Also, I found another laser place with this on their site:
“The ‘Sciton’ Laser was specifically chosen for its effectiveness and high degree of safety. With its direct contact cooling system and the 1064 nm wavelength it is optimal for comfortably eliminating hair at its source. A series of six treatments is recommended to address naturally staggered growth and achieve permanent reduction for unwanted hair anywhere on the body.”
Electrolysis is not more painful. Pain is relative and laser hurts at effective settings. Also, I would advise you to be more concerned with results rather than lack of pain if you’re truly looking for a solution to your problem. Most people who really want this difference in their life are willing to put up with a little pain. Plus, with proper equipment and skill, electrolysis really doesn’t hurt that much. And you can always use a numbing cream. If it only takes you an hour to pluck all that hair, you should definitely be considering only electrolysis. Laser has potential for inducing more growth on this area, especially for such a small area to start with.
Electrolysis price is per hour. Average is around $60-65 per hour across the country.
Try running a search using your state name or names of nearby large cities. See what others have recommended before. Also, post on the electrolysis section of this forum.
How often are you spending an hour tweezing? Daily? Weekly? Is it constant tweezing or are you having to pick or dig at ingrown hairs?
The Asheville area has several electrologists. I know a few but don’t know their work. I also know at least 4 electrologists in the area with lasers, but I’m not sure if any are YAGs. I will PM their info to you.
