Can someone clear this up?

Hi all,

Recently Jad posted asking about a “popping” sensation in the skin during insertion of the electrolysis probe with thermolysis. Would this only happen if the current was on during insertion (as someone suggested)? I also experience this, but only with work around my mouth (not on the chin, cheeks, jawline or sideburn area). Can anyone tell me if this is something I should mention to my electrolygist?

Thanx

Thermolysis produces High Frequency at the tip of the probe, when too much energy is delivered the fluid in the tissue immedietely steams. The steam rises amd continues to travel until it exits from the follicle with a popping or crackling sound. This sound is a hint that it is a excessive high frequency treatment and the electrologist should use it as a warning to reduce her levels.

Another interpretation of “popping sensation” is the possibility of the probe puncturing the follicle wall, or worse, the skin surface. Poor magnification and lighting could contribute to that…

Hi,

I should probably clarify that the popping sensation was during electro, not thermolysis. It wasn’t painful at all, so I doubt it was that current was passing through. I think it’s puncturing, but of what I’m not really sure. Possibly the skin or as Barbra posted maybe the follicle wall.

I think you might be right, as I have a lot of pebbling around my upper lip, and think it is because that first practioner I was seeing actually damaged my skin.

When did you notice the pebbling, Redearthling? I’ve been told by two electrologists so far that it’s from too much water under the skin. I’m not sure if there’s truth to that though. I guess we shall see if the scars start showing up soon, I’ve heard the same sizzling sound. Best of luck to you.

I have pebbling, too, but I don’t think it showed up for a few years. I even have a few small “dents” and wrinkles around my mouth from too much high-power, high density electrolysis. I’m looking into having skin needling treatments done and will post the results when I have them.
