Butt shaving questions/problems

Hope it’s OK to post a title like that. I just think there needs to be a separate thread on this so this specific info can be compiled in one area.

I have tried to shave my butt (with a Braun electric shaver) several different times in the last several years and the result is the same every time regardless whether I use a disposable razor or electric foil razor. There will always be red bumps for the next several days. I would like to keep it shaved and would have no problem doing it every day, but don’t know if the bumps will ever go away. I tried it again Saturday 4/29/06 and have been keeping it shaved daily since, but there still are bumps and they are getting no better. I’m beginning to think I should just not try to shave my butt anymore.

For those of you who do this, will the bumps ever go away or do I have to resort to just keeping it trimmed real short and not shaved? This is what I have done for the last several years because of the red bumps I get from shaving.

By red bumps do you mean ingrown hairs? If there were ingrown hairs, some of the bumps would be really big and inflamed. Those should be less likely with an electric. Which Braun shaver did you use? If you used an Activator or Syncro, those usually don’t cause much irritation.

I shaved mine clean for the first time Saturday, using the Philips Bodygroom. I was very happy with the results, and I had no red bumps. The secret is to not press too hard. I used the Bodygroom everywhere else too but will post in the mature forum about that later.

Normally the skin will adapt to shaving and the red bumps should go away. I’ve never shaved my butt before, just only used a trimmer up until now. But now I’m sold on shaving until I can arange permanent removal.

One thing that might help the red bumps is Tend Skin. It is good for removing and preventing ingrowns too. Just be careful where you use it.

It’s not ingrown hairs, just irritated from mostly when sleeping at night. When I roll over in bed the stubble is getting brushed against constantly, which is where most of the irritation is coming from. I didn’t shave my butt this morning simply because I don’t know if the bumps will ever go away- they are not the most inviting things to look at!

It’s been so many years since I first shaved my face, I don’t remember if there was a period of red bumps from irritation or not. I’ve always used an electric razor for my face/neck and sometimes get red bumps on my neck, but they’re gone in an hour or so- of course my face/neck is used to shaving for over 20 years.

The razor I used on my butt is an older foil shaver I used to use for my face until I upgraded to a newer model for my face. It’s a Braun model 5501. Maybe I can stick it out until I get my Philips BodyGroom in a few days. The only problem is, I have a full body massage coming up and the last thing I want is to appear to have a bunch of pimples all over my butt- even though I know they are just irritation from shaving. I’d be too embarrassed to have her massage my glutes because of this.

Thank heavens I don’t currently have a girlfriend- she’d probably think I had a pimply butt!

I have encountered the same problem… Still trying to figure out what to do. Contemplating the bodygroom… Let me know if you have any luck.

The BodyGroom is amazing! I’ve been shaving my butt with it for 3 days now and no bumps or irritation when rolling over in bed at night- I can’t believe it. Works great for me although YMMV.

Also consider your sleeping habbits . . .

The other day i had bumps before i used my Eshaver because i let it get too long and i sat a long time that day.

Well after i shaved they were still there and sore, note not ingrown just irritation.

I slept on my side and that seems to work very well.

If you are a restless sleeper you may want to look into that . . . there are too many things to list that cuase you to toss and turn in your sleep BUT most of the things can be fixed without medication.

I think i will have to get that new BodyGroom just to compair it to my Body Bare shaver . . .

HOw do you like the Body Bare Shaver? Is that one of those round ones like the Seiko? Any trouble with ingrowns.

I find the Bodygroom to work very well on the butt. No red bumps, just some minor itching just need to get used to shaving there unti I get it lasered one of these days.

I wrote my thoughts out in the “anyone try this Eshaver?” thread. I should rename it to Seiko / body bare…

But i like it, just need to make the power more consistant.

I have not noticed any ingrowns yet . . . but its still too early to say . . .

Trimmed,

I’ve had the hairs on my butt removed permanently . In the process, I’ve had similar problems you’ve mentioned.

I think some after shave care wouldn’t hurt.

Once a week I would apply tendskin to the area.

On a daily basis I would use a girlie product called Body Squad Butt Fixing Cream (made by “Mark” which is an Avon brand). It’s got a bit of glycolic acid which helps with the red bumps and even ingrown hairs (it’s not bad in the groin area either for the same benefit). It works (at least for me)!

$8/tube goes a long way.

Good luck.

Hi real-sore,

Did you do laser or electrolysis to permantently remove your butt hair?

Thanks!

Both - I think I got better results from electrolysis.

(butt cheeks and peri-anal area).
