burned?

I had a shower today, about 1.5 days after I had a treatment done on my upper arms and shoulders, and I noticed a series of parallel wine-coloured tracks running across the top of my shoulders and shoulder blades. I’m presuming that these are burn marks, although they aren’t painful. I’m sorry I don’t recall the laser model or power setting, but I can find out.

Should I bring this up with the tech, and am I within my rights to ask for a refund? Can I expect these marks to go away, and if so, how long will it take?

I don’t think that laser is working very well for treating my upper arms and shoulders. After years of expensive trial and error I have reasonable clearance on my back, although everyone always misses the patches that are now growing down the sides of my back.

I think this is now a job for electrolysis, although I’m having a very difficult time finding a place in Vancouver / Lower Mainland.

Yes, please find out the name of the machine and settings used (spot size, joules, and pulse numbers). Also, let us know what your skin type is.

Also, it sounds like the remaining hair on your back is too fine for laser.

Do you have coarse hair on your upper arms and shoulders? Is the growth dense?

And yes, it sounds like a burn, though hard to tell without a picture. Definitely show to your clinic. If it doesn’t really hurt or feel like anything, it may be superficial or it may be bruising. All of these should be temporary, but your clinic should be aware.

Skin type II. Probably most of the hair on my back is too fine, but not all of it. The hair on my upper arms and shoulders is dense and coarse. I believe some of it may be the result of laser stimulation, since hair didn’t grow there in force until after I started laser / IPL.

Sounds like a burn if they’re a dark purple or brown color, rather than light red.

I had similar burns during one of my many treatments. It took a year for them to fade completely, but they became less noticeable within 3 months and I don’t have any lasting scars. I was never burned again, and they sent the laser in for service.
