Brusing? Post laser hair removal

Hi All,
I’ve been having laser done for a while now on my bikini line, peri anal & underarm areas. This has been going great, and post laser the only problems I have experience have been the normal…a bit of redness, soreness & sensitivity which has cleared up after a few days.

On Wednesday of this week I then went in to have full leg hair removal.

Thighs were completely fine, as I have always had relatively fair and fine hair in this area. However, calves were AN ABSOLUTE BITCH. The hair I have in this area has always been horribly thick & very dark, and if i shave will undoubtely being to grow back in a matter of hours. Infact, its always been so thick the regrowth has caused me a lot of pain & itchiness to the point where I stopped bothering to shave.

Laser on this area was honestly some of the worst pain I have experienced in my life, but I stuck with it, because I am thinking about the results and my laser tech assured me that she had had it done & experienced the same thing.

The day after, I began to notice I had blue & light grey bruises all over my calves. I dont know if this is normal or whether the wrong setting was used or what? Has anyone else experienced this?

I should say I go to a sk:n clinic (a fairly reputable chain of laser techs), they use a Gentlelase on me, and I THINK she had it set on 20 (moving to 22 next time I go - yikes).

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

If your thigh hairs are fine and fair, I assume that you mean light colored hairs were treated? If that is true, you wasted money on your thighs.

There have been some posts here over the years about bruising, but just know that if indeed this is bruising, the blood below the skin will be absorbed gradually in the next week or two.

Hopefully others come forward if they have a story to tell, but to ease your mind, a quick call to the clinic would be the best thing for you to do or if you are close by, just walk in and show them.

There are numbing creams that you can use, UNDER SUPERVISION, to help with the pain. I think you will be very happy with the results of lasing your lower legs with a great laser, even though it is a BEE-OCH worth of pain. Come back and update us, PLEASE!

Thanks, dfahey.

In terms of my thighs, I meant relatively speaking compared to the other parts of my body! So although the hair is relatively fine, it is still dark. My plan is to have 1 or 2 treatments, see how it responds, and then proceed accordingly. Im prepared to have more minimal results but…nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I gave the clinic a call after reading your post, and they reassured me that its something they occasionally do see. They said it sometimes occurs around the ankle area as the skin is more delicate. But to be honest, they seemed more concerned with the fact that I had already consented to putting up with ‘side effects’, and not wanting to shoulder the blame. Not that I wanted to blame anyone - I was just a bit concerned!

Anyway nearly a week after the treatment & seems to almost have all gone. I will come back and update on the hair situation once shedding has begun.

Noted! We look forward to your future posts, bab.

We can’t tell settings without knowing the spot size being used. 20-22J can be high or low depending on what spot size they’re using.

Bruising means the settings were too high though. It will resolve itself, but they should adjust settings on that area next time. You need to share this with the clinic.
