Hi all. I am new to this site, but have enjoyed reading through some old posts. They have been incredibly helpful. I am almost finished my electrolysis training and am looking into machines. Budget wise, I have two options: the apilus cleo, which seems like a pretty basic model but is brand new, or an apilus platinum, used but cheaper in total than the cleo. The platinum seems like an overall better model, but why has it been discontinued? If I buy it used and have issues with it, would dectro be able to help me if I didn`t buy it directly through them? Which of these two machines do you recommend for somebody starting out in the industry? Thanks so much!!!
The Platinum is a better choice.Machies get retired, and they move on to newer models. As far as I know Dectro will still service the platinum. If working professionally though, you will appreciate the features on the platinum.
So another thing to consider. You may want the person you are purchasing the Platinum from to transfer it to you by sending the serial number to Dectro and letting them know you are purchasing it. Then you can register the unit with Dectro and they would be glad to help you. Before you purchase, I would ask someone at Dectro, like a technician, if it can repaired. Do they have the mother board or other parts to repair it, since it is a discontinued model?
It’s a great unit (I used one for years), but is worthless if it can’t be repaired. I also own a Silhouet VMC, but it will be retired when the probe holder goes kerplunk. They don’t make the probe holder anymore, so I’m told. If that fact has changed, I would be delighted to hear so.
Thanks so much. I contacted Dectro and they said that since it has been discontinued so long ago, they will not be able to replace any parts when they go faulty. If the seller reduces the Platinum, maybe I will go for it, otherwise it`s risky because it might break in a few weeks and then I just wasted my money!
Glad that you called them. Thanks for sharing this information here.
