Bikini Line Journey in London

I decided to move out of a thread started by someone else and begin my own so I can let people know about my experience.

I got a Groupon for laser hair removal from Skin Oasis for a very good price. I have type II skin and very dark course hair in my bikini line. I have only waxed there a few times in my life which I think helped.

I went in for my initial consultation and had these setting on the Alex Apogee Elite:
15 joules, 20 pulse width, 15 spot size. I felt little pain and wasn’t even really red for more than a few minutes. It was definitely a LOT lower than I could handle.

After my first treatment, I’ve had a ton of shedding, but they missed quite a few bits on my right side and a few smaller bits on my left, so I’m going to go in for a touchup. At that time, I’m also going to ask to be tested for much higher joules (20+) so we can go up for my second treatment (which will be 8 weeks after my first treatment).

These settings are ok, but you’re correct that you can handle higher as a type II. They can use somewhat higher joules and somewhat lower pulse width (lowest is 5ms)

So today I went and got the spots they missed done. They went up to 20 joules on the areas they missed. It definitely hurt more and I have much more redness than before. I am pleased that they were willing to do a touchup for free and were really all about talking about the process more.

My next appointment will be 8 weeks after my first appointment. Will report back again…may see if they are willing to go ‘stronger’ as it didn’t kill me (though it did feel momentarily like needles being stuck into my skin this time).

I wouldn’t plan on a pre-set date for your next appt. Just wait and see how new growth comes in. You may need to go in for 10-12 weeks.

An update…after 4 sessions which I’ve spaced out and after making them up the settings to an almost unbearable stage (for 2nd appointment), I now have about 80% reduction in visible hair. I plan on going for two more spaced out sessions and then hoping most of the hair will be gone. Even now, if I have to shave, it’s SOOOO much easier as much of the hair still exisiting is finer. I do have one or two patches of hair that are thicker hair, so hoping to attack those in the two sessions. And, of course, I’ll follow up after a half year to year. I did want to come back to post to say thank you for all the great advice I found here!

Thanks for following up!
