Hi, I have been using an Emjoi gold caress for a long time–have to buy a new one every 2-3 years when it dies. Now they do not carry this anymore. I remember trying a couple other brands a long time ago that did not work but sadly, I did not write down the names so can’t remember. I am used to using it and am not bothered by the slight pain–I would rather have a bit of pain and it actually work! Not interested in a lot of bells and whistles. Also needs to be a plug in as battery types do not last long enough to do my legs.
I have not seen any new posts on this subject–hoping someone can recommend a good epilator that actually pulls the hair out quickly!
Hi Deb,
I used to be much more keen on epilators when I thought epilation would eventually have a permanent impact on growth (and when I didn’t realize how much of my skin issues were related to epilating), but I still use one for forearms and hands and find it excellent for that. The brand I use is a Braun Silk Epil 9. I’ve had it for around 5 years and got it used, and it’s still going strong.
The Silk Epil 9 is a battery-powered unit, but the battery life is excellent, and I’ve never had difficulty doing a lot with it before recharging. I think you’ll find it a good alternative to a corded unit. It’s also a wet-or-dry type of epilator, in case that’s a helpful feature for you.
Hi Deb
I’ve been using the Braun Silk Epil Xelle for approx 5 yrs and it’s still going strong. It’s corded and has a built-in light (which is very useful).
thank you for your response!
thank you for your response! What kind of skin issues are you having from epilating?
I’m glad to say I’m not having any with my forearms, but with my legs, the follicles tended to get (and stay) red and angry. I have keratosis pilaris, though, which is a condition that doesn’t cause any harm except that follicles get red and angry, so I chalked it up to that for a long time and was surprised at how much it improved after I stopped epilating. Electrolysis and laser seem much better for legs in my case.
