Hey people

I need some info on what electric body trimmer / shaver is the best my needs.

Ive got long thick dark hair pretty much all over chest stomach and arms. my upper back is thinner but still has dark hair.

Ive seen the Phillips bodygroom TT020 bodygroomer which looks pretty decent. There also a remington active one which is alot cheaper. Which one is the best for me.

My wish is to simply trim my long bodyhairs so they appear thinner and not too short so it looks like stubble.

Which one of these (or even others if there are any) should I get.

Also im from the UK so whats the cheapest place to get them from?

I own both. The Bodygroom is best at short trimming and shaving. The trimmer attachments don’t work all that great IMHO. It has a bigger head and can shave more quickly than the Remington. You can trim longer hair and shave the skin clean in one pass.

The Remington BHT-2000 is excellent. The trimmer is better than the Bodygroom but is not suitable for sensitive areas (kiwis) due to the wide tooth spacing on the blades. The shaving attachment works better than the Norelco but is smaller.

If you only want to trim a regular size clipper like Wahl or Oster would be quicker, and they have good trimmer guards. I prefer the hairless look myself.

Is the Bodygroom a an electric razor or a trimmer? Does it give a pretty close shave? I like my arms done, I tried using a regular razor and I got nicked up a couple times. I guess I’m asking what will give the closest shave without the nicks. If you think a regular razor is better what kind would you suggest? Thank you, Chuck

The BodyGroom is a combination electric razor/trimmer. It doesn’t shave quite as close as a regular electric shaver. I would go with a Braun electric razor if you want a close shave without using a blade.

The BodyGroom is a combination electric razor/trimmer. It doesn’t shave quite as close as a regular electric shaver. I would go with a Braun electric razor if you want a close shave without using a blade. [/quote]

I agree. Brauns are very well suited for body shaving, especially ones with the swivel head, like the Syncro Pro and 360 Complete. I find the new 360 Complete to shave a little closer and more quickly than the previous generation Activator. The Activator gives a good shave though.

FWIW, the Fusion Power is a great blade and is less likely to cut than earlier models or the cheap disposables.

Seiko has a new Femini trimmer, the PS-335 which looks like an improved version. It has a larger trimming area and it looks like the teeth are designed better. I was thinking of trying one as the angle you hold it at is not as critical as with the Bodygroom. If you don’t hold the Bodygroom at just the right angle, the trimmer blades can dig into the skin on the “kiwis” and it bleeds like crazy. Right now I’m using the Remington BHT 2000 shaver there every day so I don’t need to use a trimmer. I’m very happy with the results.

Do you guys buy these Bodygroomers in stores? I checked WalMart and London Drugs and neither had it.
Also, is it good for trims that keep the hair fairly long as well? Some areas I want to trim, but still want the hairs to be a couple inches long…

If you want to keep the hairs a couple inches long, then the BodyGroom won’t even come close to working for that. In fact, I can’t think of any trimmer on the market that will let you leave hair 2 inches long. The longest the BodyGroom will leave hair is about 3/8" using the #3 attachment.

If you need to trim hair to just 2" long, you must be one hairy person! And I thought I was hairy! I think your only option would be a good pair of scissors and a comb.

I just bought the remington shaver… im going to try it out tomorrow

Im a bit apprehensive though about how well it will work for me

Im more hairy then the average person (although not the hairiest) and im not sure if a trimmer is the best for me… it might just leave alot of stubble.

My chest hair is actually quite thick and coarse. And its also been spreading recently (i think due to me trimming it with scissors). I hope i dont have that same problem after using this electric trimmer, will I?

Also ive noticed that the hair has apread on my upper arms since I shaved them once before. I really hope that by using this trimmer I wont become hairy as certain people who have hair all over their back, shoulders and chest. At the moment my chest is pretty hairy and ive got slight hair on shoulder and upper back but not too much. Im worried that if i trim it regularly then itll grow alot there.

What do you guys all think?

I think people need to realize once and for all that shaving absolutely, positively [color:“red”] DOES NOT LEAD TO INCREASED HAIR GROWTH OR SPREADING OF HAIR!!! [/color]

i hope your right because everytime i have shaved or trimmed my hair just seems to grow back thicker and spreads into more areas.

Today i tried the remington bht 2000 on my arms and its worked well. ive trimmed it down to #2 on my forearms and ive trimmed without the comb attachment on my upper arms and hands.

One question - how do I make the no hair on my hands and upper arms merge into the #2 length of hair on my lower arms. id prefer not to remove forearm hair completely but keep it trimmed and tidy instead. however for upper arms id prefer no hair and same for hands. At the moment it looks a bit funny because my hands are hair free and then straight away ive got hair starting from my wrist. How can i blend the two together?

Also the remington took a while to trim… is the norelco bodygroom faster?

There is no need to hope about these comments being right. Shaving or trimming is definitely not causing your hair to grow back thicker or to spread to more areas. Hormones and a good blood supply are responsible. Your genetic charactaristics are responsible.

The thickest part of the hair is the part near the skin. When you shave or trim the hair, you remove the tapered, soft end part of the hair and you then are left to feel the blunted, coarser part of the hair that is near the skin’s surface.

This is one of the world’s myths that just won’t die easily. There have been many studies done over the last century that proves this without argument.

Hi Trimmed

Rather just go to a number 2 or even 1 trimmer. 1 inch is really long, and I used to have dark leg hairs about that lenth as a teenager. I never wore shorts, even in summer. To me it was very embarresing and I finally shaved my legs completely many years later. Nobody even commented and with light blond hair on my head it looked normal for the first time. I just took too long to do it. It would have been easier for me if I did it as a teenager.

After trimming my arm hairs its taken about a week to get back to their original full length which is actually quite quick… i trimmed to a #2 as well. Also ive noticed that ive got a few randomly placed longer hairs on my arm. Ive noticed those before i trimmed my arm but there seem to be more of them now. These hairs are like double the length of the normal arm hairs and just stick out stupidly… anyone know what they are?

ONE FINAL NOTE

Ive noticed that after trimming my arm hair, when it grows back, sometimes two hairs will be growing from exactly the same hair root (so one root and two hairs coming from it making it look thicker and ugly). Sometimes instead of growing from the same root theyll grow side by side (like less then 1mm away). This is not for every hair on my arm but again its randomly dotted around. What is happening here???

I don’t think it is possible to make it look very natural if you shave all of the hair off of your hands and then suddenly have hair starting at your wrist. I have been trying this for years (trimming forearm hair and shaving my hands completely) and it has always looked bad. It sucks because the older I get (I am 29), the darker/coarser my forearm hair gets, so the cut off between my shaven hands and my hairy forearms becomes even more pronounced and stupid looking. I have essentially taken to hiding my arms under long sleeve shirts for years, not fun on summer days.

I have brownish/reddish hair, so it is definitely not optimal for laser removal, but I feel that it may eventually be my only hope.

If any one has any suggestions on how to make my arm hair look more natural, let me know!

Multiple follicle growth can happen as you say. Sometimes a light fine follicle will occupy the same root and shaving may make that fine follicle react with stronger growth. Obviously this does not mean you are growing more hair by shaving, only that follicles are changing appearence. While I am not too sure on the ecact mechanisms that may cause this, I do think the shaving action or touching the skin will increase bloodflow to these areas. This is also true of blood thinning agents and certain other drugs.

I believe it is possible to increase hair growth by massage of the area (such as the scalp) by stimulation of blood circulation. Possibly you are touching or scratching the shaven area causing this reaction? Also during summer (because of heat) our blood circulates in the capillaries closer to the skin which again can enhance hair reponse.
