Are you allergic to Lidocaine or any of the 'caines?
No.
PFB? Is that what it’s called? (Purchased from Prestige) Can be applied several times during the tx. Some of my clients who use EMLA actually do well when I apply this after the EMLA wears off.
Hey Barbara,
Thanks so much for this recommendation.
My friend has just started electrolysis and having a hard time with it. EMLA requires a lot of prep but this sounds fantastic. Will be telling her to get some.
I haven’t personally had this area worked on, so I don’t know how effective it would be on the upper lip, but for other sensitive areas (underarms) I’ve used plain old Solarcaine. Get the gel with aloe vera, not the spray-on stuff… you can find the 8oz bottle at Wal-Mart for 4 or 5 bucks, maybe slightly higher at a drugstore. It’s marketed primarily as sunburn relief, so look in that section if you have trouble finding it. (For an extra cool touch you can store the bottle in your fridge, but that makes it slightly too cold for me!) My electrologist actually keeps small disposable cups of mild lidocaine in her waiting room for clients, but I like this stuff before & especially after, as the added aloe vera gel has extra soothing properties for the skin.
Don’t forget, too, that a regular ice pack can numb the skin fairly well for short periods of time. If you’re talking about a small treatment area, this may be all you need anyway.
