Beard epilation from IPL to Laser

Hi everyone, so here my IPL background, I had 6 session of IPL(The device was from palomar)
on the face and the neck to remove my beard, I noticed a reduction especially on the neck and the sideburn. However on the chin and over the lip, my hair are only more fine and less coarse ( no reduction of the number ). After readind a lot on this forum I decided to go with laser, I was wondering if alexandrite for the neck and the sideburn and YAG for the chin and the upperlip was a suitable option ? If it is , at wich energy level should they set the device in both case ? ( I’m a type II skin ( brown eyes and light browns hair and a fair complextion ), with very light skin never exposed to sun, I wear a 50 uv shield everyday.
Thank for the advices

(Sorry for the bad quality of the text, english is not my first language)

Are you male or female? Is any of the hair currently coarse, dark, and dense? That’s the only type of hair that laser can impact.

How old are you?

We can’t advise on settings over the internet like this. You need to go for a consultation with the clinic and ask THEM what settings they want to use on you. Then you can post joules, spot size, and pulse width here and we can advise whether they’re aggressive enough. You’re pretty light, so you should be able to handle very aggressive settings as long as you’re not tanned.

Yag penetrates deeper, so if you’re male, chin and lip areas may need it.

Thank LAgirl, to answer your question I’m 21 years old and the color of the hair of my beard is dark brown to dark. I took an appointment for a consultation with a clinic who is using the cynosure elite that have both laser ( alexandrite and yag ) here the specification of the device :
http://www.cynosure.com/products/elite/specs.php. Unfortunateky it seem that the spot size can’t be larger than 15 mm, I heard that 18mm is more efficient.

That’s a good laser. Most places wouldn’t use 18mm on the face anyway, even with GentleLASE places only want to use 15mm on your face. 18 is too big for that area which needs accuracy. I’ve been to 3 clinics, not one would use 18 on the face so the 15 is fine. Laser is very hard to do on the face, you have lots of hormones and the hair is more dense there and there’s twice as much of it. I’ve had great results on my neck and cheeks but very little on chin and upper lip. I think it really needs electrolysis.

You didn’t mention whether the hair is COARSE. Just “dark” is not enough.

You also didn’t clarify whether you’re male or female. That makes a huge difference. I’m assuming male, but we need to know for sure.

That’s a good laser. 15mm is fine. 18mm is only available on Candela machines and the very new Cynosure machines.

Good to know that 15mm is better for the face, thank. I’m male, and my hair hair are really coarse especially in these area ( face ) and even more on the chin and the upperlip. Edokid how much treatment did you receive on the chin and the upperlip ? I hope it will remove my hair on these area, I really want to look like if I was 16 again. And I also wanted to know what was the ideal level of joule and pulse to remove hair efficiently on my type of skin( II ) ? Anyway my appointment is on the 8 march, I will ask them wich setting are they gonna use on me and come back on the forum to let you know.

I’ve had 7 sessions on full face which includes upper lip and chin. Was 15mm with 30 joules, and I’ve had pretty much no results on either of those areas. Electryolysis is pretty much the only way to clear those areas I’m afraid.

:(, That sad but you are probably right when I was on IPL after my six session I tought for 1 month that it was almost all gone on the chin and the upperlip, but unfortunalety it came back after 2 month the hair was just a bit less coarse. At least the reduction on the neck and the other part of the face seem to be reduce by 50%. Do you think that multiple session with the yag could reduce hair on chin-upperlip.
