Beard Electrolysis

Big happy hug to Adrien … I love this kid (I really do!)

Go “get 'em” kiddo!

Gotta think about Adrien today (my hero) as I “schlep” my old rotten body to the treatment table and remove my next 500 millionth hair from somebody’s wrinkled old chin. My only “prayer?” They didn’t eat garlic last night. Other than that, I’m just fine.

modality smodality. Training shmaining. The machine doesnt matter, nor the modality, nor even the practitioner to an extent, as long as the outcome is the same.

These are all paths to a goal. The goal is a clear face. It does not matter as long as a clear face is the result with no skin damage.

I love the blend. I dont get to work in it very often anymore . I did my whole face in the blend, and left zero marks. Oh sure sometimes I took some chances and experimented a little, but for the most part my long term results are spectacular. No smoking holes. I tended to give lots of treatment ( 15-20 seconds? maybe 8 on upper lip) in order to create lots of heated lye and ensure destruction. I averaged if I was to guess a 95% kill rate. But at what cost?

I can treat up to 6 or 7 times as much hair in thermolysis in the same time frame. If I’m using a tweezerless technique on long hairs, even more due to efficiency. With accurate insertions and sufficient treatment energy my kill rate might be 50%?

But as soon as I try and make the point that blend is slower overall, I’d be dead wrong. Because along would come a fast blend operator with results that show their total treatment time is better or equal to what I can achieve in thermolysis with top efficiency.

With the right training , and technique, either modality wins the race.

As long as you look for the smoothest extraction in the most efficient but thorough manner possible, then you will have good results.

Looks like my electrologist will be back in about 2 weeks so I don’t need to find another one. While I think mine is doing a good job at clearing my face and having minimal reaction, I haven’t exactly seen much reduction after 4 full clearances with thermolysis. Is this to be expected if she isn’t the most skilled? I know for the most part, kill rate is due to the skill of the electrologist. Should I see a good amount of reduction after each clearance?

a good reduction would be 40-60% less hairs after a single clearance. After 4 clearances you should be almost done. The fact you say skin reaction is minimal, AND you’ve seen little reduction, indicates to me they could be undertreating.

Would it be okay to ask her if she could use a little higher settings? I don’t want to risk scarring but I honestly have not scabbed once with any of my sessions.

I dont know that “scabbing” is a desireable outcome, and some people dont scab at all. However if the hairs are not sliding out easily, then higher settings would be warranted. It could also be the energy is not being dispersed in the right place ( accuracy of insertions) in which case turning the settings up, would have no effect.

would it be okay for me to ask for higher settings? I want to ask but I’m not sure how to do that without offending her or saying that her treatments aren’t working that well.

If you dont gfeel she is getting a smooth release o the hair, I would think it’s okay to suggest it.

how would I go about asking for higher settings? I don’t want her to think I think she isn’t doing a good job.

IT would have to be part of an open discussion about results and done in such a way so as not to offend. I would make the following points:

That you dont see that there has been good progress on the hairs removed, and that you are seeing a high regrowth rate.

That you dont think they are getting a good release of the hair, which would generally mean that the follicles are not being killed.

That you are okay with higher settings to overcome this difficulty.

It may be that the electrologist isnt open to hearing this, or has been taught to undertreat. IF this is the case, the better option unfortunately might be to find a better electrologist.

I feel that she is definitely under treating in favor of getting a more favorable skin reaction. Am I going to get results eventually with being under treated or should I ask to increase the settings? I don’t want to risk scarring by turning up the settings, but don’t the settings need to be higher for male facial hair versus female facial hair?

The hair follicle and hair is generally
( though not always ) courser and larger in men. Larger mass generally means more energy is needed to get the release of the hair, and it is the smooth release of the hair that is the best yardstick to effectiveness.

Ironically, undertreating is one way to create scarring when repeated too low treatments can affect the skin texture of the skin by creating repeated scar tissue under the skin.

So I should definitely ask to increase the settings? I wish I lived closer to you because I would definitely go to you for electrolysis.

I asked my Electrologist if she would increase her settings and I’m glad to say that this last session (Early this morning) was the best one yet. I would say that 85-90 percent of the hairs got a smooth release. Only a handful of fairs felt like they were plucked.

I feel like this is a never ending cycle. I sometimes think that my sessions are successful and then i feel like i’m not getting adequate treatments. I have had 12 sessions of laser before i started electrolysis. I have had 8 clearances since February (had to stop treatments for about 2 months since her son was very sick). Since july 11th i have had 4 clearances and it takes on average of about 2 hours and 30 minutes to get a full clearance of my neck, cheeks, upper and lower lip. Am i right to think that my sessions should be getting shorter after every clearance? I don’t have many options to see anyone else as the next closest electrologist is an hour further away and i am already traveling 2 hours there and 2 hours back. Does anyone have any insight on this? Am i dealing with poor treaments or does it really take this long before i start seeing results? I do have a picture of my treatment dates, and length of session if needed.

If anyone could please possibly help me find an electrologist in my area so i could possibly try someone else, I would be forever greatful. My facial hair bothers me so much i just want to get it removed. I am located 1 hour north of Fargo North Dakota. I live in Grand Forks North dakota. there is 1 current electorologist that i have spoken to in fargo but isn’t taking any new clients because she took over clients from all the electrologists in fargo that closed. I do not want to travel more than 2 hours but i could try and find a way to make it work if need be.

Probably the best approach to take is to make a list of electrologists in North Dakota and make some short appointments. Start at electrology.com , then do an Internet search. Go to a neighboring state if you have to.

Maybe someone will be good enough to share and give you a recommendation.

The reality is, you never know what is going to happen with laser. I have clients that went 4-5 years without any growth post laser and, bam, full beard slowly trickles in again. I’ve had others where it didn’t even take that long (one guy who gets his back done was about 6 weeks after his 12th laser treatment before he had a full back of hair again).

Your clearance times should decrease over time, though in the beginning, particularly on the face, there can be so much new hair coming in that wasn’t present during the first clearing, that it might take a couple sessions to actually start decreasing the time to clear it.

All of that said, if you feel like you’re being undertreated (ie, plucking), then you probably are.

Hello everyone!
I feel like I should share my progress on a client I started working on in March.
The roots were too distorted from years of plucking so I switched to blend and got better results.
