bay area recommendations?

Heyyy everyone.

I’m new here and I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders just reading people’s success stories.

I’m 22, female, live in the bay area. I’ve alwaayyys been a little fury girl since I was little. I remember having more leg hair than boys!!!

anyway, I’m going to my doctor to test for PCOS/hormonal imbalances because I am absolutely at the end of my rope with my hair!!

My body is pretty fury, but I can almost deal with it, unlike my facial hair. I absolutely hate it. I have fairly l ight skin, although I tan easily, and dark hair. It’s pretty fine on my cheeks (but stil visible because its DARK, not blonde), chin, but dark and course on my upper lip (ive been waxing, which ive learned i shouldnt) and under my jaw line. i also have pretty horrid side burns. uuggghhh!

anyway, after looking into hair removal choices, I’ve narrowed it down to electrolysis. Im pretty scared of it, unsure of prices, and just don’t know where to begin. I’m hoping my doc will give me some insight when I meet with her.

But until then, does any body have recommendations for an electrolocist in the bay area?

i want to get my entire face done (upper lip, lower lip, chin, cheeks, jaw line, side burns, neck), and how should I do it? how long does a session take on average? and what kind of prices should I expect?
and pain? i can tolerate pain fairly well, i think.

any insight would be great, im looking to take care of this problem. I know its a journey, but considering Ive been dealing with this for 22 years, I’m commited to whatever the length of it is.

Cool, another thing in common, I live in the Bay Area too.

It was few years ago since I went to an electrologist. She is located in Fairfield. Her office is clean and I think she does a good job though she likes to talk and you know every second of those 15 minutes is vital. I do not know if she is open still. But I will see if I could remember her name.

I think this is her:
Paula Fritch Registered 2801 Waterman Blvd # 190 Fairfield, CA Phone: (707) 425-5044

I found this listing on Andrea’s hairfacts web site http://www.hairfacts.com/wiki/index.php/California_hair_removal

she charged me 15 dollars for 15 minutes and 30 for 30 minutes. she only has those two options as far as I know.

That’s a great link to a great list. Start calling and interviewing after you get some idea what to look for in a modern electrologist. Read these forums and take notes.

I had it done, by a very qualified electrolysis. It wasn’t painful at all, much more comfortable than waxing or tweezing. But my skin didn’t react to it well. It caused slight pigment changes. Nothing huge, just looks like little acne scars almost. Makes me sad. But I am probably the only one who notices them. I only have fuzzy blond hair on my face that got worse after I tried to remove it from waxing ;). It’s noticeable in certain light and angles, oh, and you can feel the fuzzies of course  I have a prescription for vaniqa, but haven’t tried it yet. my aunt has been using it for years and says it’s a miracle drug, she also has much darker facial hair than me  For now I will stick with shaving my lip and chin and just ignoring the rest of it. I probably notice it more than anyone else, anyone who matters anyways, and it seems like the more I mess with it, the worse it gets, rather it be skin damage from electrolysis, waxing, or threading, or increased hair growth from the waxing and threading.

most people don’t scar, my skin just must have been super sensitive :frowning: Perhaps I will find something one day! I know a few women who shave their entire face and swear by it, I just am not ready to take that step yet! I only put the little razor to my lip and chin!

If you have native american, middle eastern, african or asian heritage, you could have an active melenin response to treatment. This should not stop you from getting treatment, as it goes away and you would be left with hair free, care free skin.

fuzzyface,

i feel your pain.

i just got sooo sick of the hair on my face that i just went crazy with the waxing!!! i started waxing my neck, chin, upper lip, cheeks, sideburns… its almost like i was addicted to it! but yes, it is growing back darker (not courser though… just darker, i believe) and once i started realizing what people were saying about waxing it clicked with me and made me realize i was just making me situation worse.

so ive cut back on waxing, and now im trying just bleaching and trimming. i think i can deal with the bleaching and trimming everywhere but my upper lip! i tried just letting it grow out and bleaching, but the skin is so sensitive it hurt to bleach and made me break out a bit. so i dont know what what to do… if i grow it out people are just going to mistake me for a man probablyy!! hehe.

but i can deal with bleaching and trimming every where else until i go forth with electrolysis.

Where in the Bay area are you? Try using our Advanced Search feature. That area has been discussed a lot. We even had an electrologist Joanie from the Bay contribute in the past. She’s in Hayward. You may want to contact her and get some recommendations for other electrologists she may know if you’re not close enough to her.

There are recommendations on this site under Forums/California: http://www.hairtell.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/forums/54/1/California.html

Here’s a recommended one in SF:

I’m in the northbay but I’m open to going beyond. I go to school in the city and am famliar with the east bay, too.

Thank you for the links, lagirl, but they said my access was denied!!!

I’ve searched this site and had a hard time finding any reccomendations for the bay.
I will look into Joanie, too.
Thanks :]

Randa at Monterey Bay Institute of Electrology/Pacific Coast Electrology. Granted it’s a long way to go, but it’s worth it. I’ve been to about 8 different operators in the bay area, and Randa is the only one who really gets it.
