I had an electrolysis appointment today and instead of my usual electrologist her daughter started working on me. The thing is she spent too much time (don’t know but maybe even 30 minutes!) on just the right side of my upper lip before her mom took over again and worked on other areas as well. Well, I did put on some ice when I got home but maybe not long enough. Now, some 8 hours (I’m in Europe in case you are wondering later the right side is still badly swollen. It really looks bad and feels sore. Is there anything I can do to make this bad situation better?? Would putting on ice NOW still make any sense??
Please, does nobody have any advice? When I got up this morning, I still found myself looking like ugly duckling. The upper lip is swollen up to twice its normal size! What shall I do? Is this dangerous, I mean, should I go see a doctor at the hospital (as it is Sunday, that would be my only option)?? I’m desperate!!
unfortunately, I don’t have a digital camera, so I hope a description will do. Now, 27 hours after treatment my upper lip still looks heavily bloated - just like some celebrities when they get their lips done. The right side and the middle are most affected as her daughter worked on those for 30 minutes straight using flash thermolysis. (I had put on EMLA before, so pain tolerance was alright for me - otherwise I surely could not have gone this long.)When her mom took over again she only made a few insertions on the left upper lip and went on to other areas ( I had booked a 90 minutes appointment so the first time I put on ice on my upper lip was already an hour after it had been worked on).
Then I put on aloe gel and some more ice every now and then during the rest of the day. Now there is only some residual redness and except for maybe 3 tiny puss pimples on the surface, skin looks alright considerung the circumstances. It is the swelling that worries me. I’m not in pain really, but the entire area of course feels totally sore. Will this resolve itself or do I need to do something? I can’t phone my electrologist as I don’t have her private phone number, plus, she does not work Mondays, either…
30 minutes of treatment on the upper lip might be too much for you. Heavily bloated means what? Some swelling, a little infection that manifested as pus pimples, a reaction to too much heat, a reaction to a product, a reaction to the ice closing those pores… could be… maybe…
Call your electrologist; leave a message on the answering machine. Most professionals check their voice mail even on their days off.
Hi Lilia, firstly you need to tell your electrologist what happened. You had wa-a-ay too much treatment in such a small area. Secondly you need to apply firm pressure to the area regularly to get all the fluid build up out. It’s too late for ice. Take several tissues, make a thick pad and keep pressing for about 30 seconds every half hour or so. Don’t have any more treatment until the skin has gone back to normal. It may last up to 3 days.
Thank you for your advice, I have been following what pamd suggested (not every 30 minutes though) and it does seem to have an effect finally. It is Wednesday evening now and I had my treatment last Saturday around noon. The swelling is slowly going down but the area is still really sensitive, you can feel that there is still fluid build up in the lower tissues. Guess it will take some more days to fully recover…hope this serves as a warning for others who get treated on the upper lip…don’t let them work on you in this extremely sensitive area for a long time if you don’t want to end up like me looking like ugly duckling for several days
