At Electrolysis Consult, she recommends Laser...

Hi. I went for a consult today for electrolysis on my penis shaft. The Electrologist explained that they use an insulated IB Probe for such treatments, but then she went on to say that they have the Gentlemax laser that treats all skin types, and that she would recommend trying laser first. I told I her I would consider it and would reschedule a consult with their in-house physician (who happens to be leaving within a month to be replaced by an in-house nurse practitioner) about the laser treatment. I asked about an estimated cost, and she couldn’t find her price list, so I described the area that needed to be treated (about a third of my penis shaft) and she guestimated about $275 a session, with treatments every two months for about a year.

Aside from them not being to find their price list, I got a good vibe from the place. It’s the first place in my area (Central Florida) that I found that would do electrolysis on male genitals, but I haven’t called every place.

I wanted electrolysis because of recommendations I’ve read here, but would you say the Gentlemax laser would be good for the relatively small area (well it’s not THAT small) I need treated? Or should I definitely go with electrolysis? Should I look for some other places and get other consults? I would like to get this over with within a year, so I’d like to get started on treatments (also, I travel for a living, so my windows for treatments are limited). I guess I’m unsure about laser vs. electrolysis still.

Seems laser has it’s benefits of being faster, and less frequent treatments (and the electrologist said we could finish off any leftover hairs with electrolysis), but electrolysis is 100% and may be better for the area in question.

Any advice is appreciated!

Unless the hair is very dense and coarse, I wouldn’t do laser on this area. Electrolysis would be a lot more precise. Also, that price is very expensive for a pretty small area like this. By comparison, underarms (both) treatments usually cost around $50-125 per treatment. Is this area larger than this?

I have a feeling they’re suggesting it because they don’t want to deal with electrolysis on this area. It would be faster for them to fire the laser in 2 mins every 2 months and be done with it. However, I doubt that will give you the results you want.

Is Judy Adams in St Augustine very far from you. She also does both. I’d considering going there. With good electrolysis, you’d only need to come in once every 3 weeks.

Thanks LAgirl. I kinda wonder if she meant $275 for ALL the treatments. I’ll email them in the meantime. My travel schedule has me coming into town every 4 to 6 weeks, for about 1 week. I don’t imagine this would be a problem when it comes to electrolysis treatments(?)

Saint Augustine isn’t too far, and if Judy Adams has a good reputation, I think I’ll get a consult there next time I get into town (or before I leave next week). Thanks again.

She has a very good reputation with both, so I would definitely check her out. She’ll be honest about which method will be best.

There is also someone named Melanie who’s an electrologist and a laser specialist in the area: http://www.hairtell.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/18861.html

Yes, electrolysis will be fine to get once every 4 weeks or so. You basically want to make sure to treat while the hair is in anagen phase of growth.
