Ash's LHR Treatment Diary!

I had my first LHR treatment on my underarms today. I am planning to purchase a package of treatments for my bikini line, but I did underarms today because I just had a bikini wax yesterday. If I’m pleased with the results on my bikini line, I may do treatment for underarms in the future. The underarm treatment was free with coupon so it was a good deal!

Clinic: True Laser
GentleLase
18mm, 16 joules, 30 pls, 50/40 dcd

I am half Asian half white with fair skin and dark, coarse hair.

The pain was not bad at all but I hated the smell of burning hair (ick!). They gave me a bag with a loofah, aloe vera gel, Cellex-C samples, and aftercare information and said they would call tomorrow to see how my underarms are feeling. I’m looking forward to seeing shedding in a few days! I took a “before” picture so I’ll be able to post a “after 1 treatment” pic in a week.

Great followup. Hope you will continue posting with your progress. I’m assuming you have dark coarse hair there. Shedding takes 2-3 weeks, so do wait that long before fully judging results. Those are good settings.

It’s a great idea to start on this one area first and see how it goes before adding bikini. It’s also not a bad idea to start laser after waxing an area (when new hair starts to grow in) since the hair will be synchronized. I find you need less treatments overall that way.

Hope you can provide a clinic recommendation and your location in the future.

Good luck.

Looking forward to hearing more about your treatment! I’m also half Asian with dark, coarse underarm hair and am starting to look into LHR. Hope all goes well for you!

It’s officially been a little more than 2 weeks since my first underarm treatment, and my results were a little different than what I expected. From posts here, I expected to see shedding, but I only noticed about 5 hairs shedding while in the shower. However, I do feel like the hair growth has been retarded–like my underarm has been growing stubble at a rate that is slower than normal.

That stubble is the hair shedding. It is not new or actively growing hair. Your body is slowly pushing the hair out. In another 2 weeks you will probably have no hair until the next cycle comes in.

Are you shaving the hair? It can slow down shedding since you’re not letting the hairs work themselves out of the skin. Try not shaving for a few days and scrubbing gently. And give it 3 weeks.

I’ve had 2 treatments on the bikini line and 2 treatments on the underarm so far. For the bikini line, the first two treatments were with GentleLase18mm, 16 joules (started at 18 but due to discomfort I asked them to turn it down. Second treatment for underarm was done with a Gentle Yag with 18 mm 20 joules (I think). For this treatment, I used a lidocaine/prilocaine cream (with insurance, the Rx was a $5 copay for the generic). I applied it about 45 minutes before and I definitely felt less discomfort and I will use the lidocaine/prilocaine cream in the future.

Now I’ll have to save up for a lower leg package…

Did my third tx for bikini line and underarm today. I also added a full brazilian because I want 2 brazilian treatments to thin out the rest of the hair. I am really glad I had the lidocaine/prilocaine cream–even though it was fast, it would have really hurt without it! When I applied it though, I accidentally got some in a senstive area and it burned!

I can see a difference on my bikini line and underarms–the hair is sparser and finer. on the brazilian they used 18 joules; 20 on the underarms/

Fourth tx for bikini and underarm. I decided not to go for the full brazilian until I see what the regrowth is really like–still got some pepper spots from the last treatment.

Bikini and underarms are looking pretty damn good! Underarm has seen the most improvement. I used lidocaine/prilocaine again and boy now it’s hard to imagine not using it.

Bikini line: 18/20 Underarm 20/20. The tech said that she turned down the coolant a little bit too in order to make the treatment more effective.

Fifth tx for bikini and underarm. Some bad news. I had a tech who I’ve never had before and as she’s zapping me, I noticed that she didn’t do an area that i usually have done. I ask her and she said “oh, that’s a modified bikini not a bikini. In order to do that part we’d have to charge you extra. The owners have been cracking down on us”. Also, she gave out an unsolicited bit of info–my old tech was no longer working there.

Well, one of the things I liked about this clinic was its transparency in prices and packages. There is NO “modified bikini” package or pricing on their treatment list, so how was I supposed to pay for a package like that if it wasn’t offered? I was definitely peeved by this.

Settings were a bit lower than last time–maybe 18/20 bikini underarm 20/20.

Another interesting note:
I’ve now had full regrowth on the area I just did a single Brazilian treatment on. I wanted to thin this area out a little but not remove it. The hair is softer and finer but not sparser. I am deciding whether or not to do another tx.

Thought this would help someone who was thinking about doing only 1 treatment…looked like i damaged follicles with 1 tx…not destroyed them

Are you getting treated with GentleLASE on both areas? You mentioned in one of the posts that they used GentleYAG at least once. Do you know why since you can obviously handle good settings on the GentleLASE?

Also, there is no 20/20 setting. 18mm is the largest spot size on these machines.
