Are these settings still effective?

Hi everyone!

I’ve been using my dermatologist for LHR, but she’s very expensive, and thanks to someone on this forum, I have tried a much cheaper place. However, this place uses different settings (a little weaker) so I wanted to know if this new place is still effective.

My dermatologist uses a GentleMAX on me (she uses the alexandrite part) at anywhere from 18-26J, 10 ms pulse width, and 18mm spot size. The new place I tried today did 16J, 40 ms pulse width, and 18 mm spot size. I know the 16J/18mm is an acceptable level, but the high pulse width makes me a little worried that it may not be very effective.

I’m a skin type II as well. Any thoughts would be most appreciated!

The 40ms pulse width is lengthy. On regular GentleLASE it’s fixed at 3ms. Generally, the shortest pulse width possible is best in order to overcome the melanocyte thermal relaxation time.

I would re-check the settings for your first treatment. For the alex, 20J is max at 18mm.

Maybe my dermatologist used YAG at those settings, I don’t remember for sure. I know for sure that they were high enough to do some damage haha.

Regardless, I’m now a little worried that the 40ms won’t result in permanent removal. She said her goal is to get it down to 20ms, which I know I can handle, but she said she wanted to see how I reacted at 40ms. Is 40ms too high to get any permanent results?

I’m not 100% sure, but they may be able to use 18-26J on 18mm on GentleMAX on the alex version with the 10ms pulse. But it’s likely that JMISR is correct and the numbesr are off or are for a Yag.

With your skin type, you should be able to handle 18mm, 16-18J, 3-10ms. Have them test spot you.
