Had my first electrolysis session today and I already have some deep pitting and weeping scabs. Is this normal? Or did the tech use to high of settings? Will these heal with out scaring with proper care?
that’s f. overtreated
Now, what’s the remedy? => Permanent damage has developed & nothing else that you can do, but only “time”
Modern medical treatments for scars can’t effectively fix this yet.
Apply thin layer of hydro gel and cover it with super clean reusable silicone sheet from chemist will lessen the scar severity a bit
This appears to be very severe overtreatment, and although your skin will do a great job in its healing process with time, I do believe you will be left with noticeable scarring.
Silicone scar sheets as suggested above are an excellent option, but I would consult a dermatologist for peace of mind. They would be able to monitor your healing progress over the long term and potentially offer better treatment with time.
If you have any fight in you, see if the electrologist will cover the cost of the dermatologist. They should not be practising electrolysis.
Thank you for you reply. I’m very disappointed. The office I went to had all of their certifications and hundreds of great reviews. I will reach out to them and try to get my treatment refunded of the cost of a dermatology appointment covered.
I was very up front with them about this but I’ve been using a non- prescription strength .3% retinol. They assured me it wouldn’t be a problem but I think they were wrong. I trusted that if the skin was too sensitive they would stop before damage was done.
If this was a beauty clinic that offered various services, then the reviews and certifications would have covered other treatments. This sort of clinic often has poor outcomes for electrolysis versus a dedicated electrologist or electrolysis clinic. If this was, in fact, an electrolysis clinic, then I’m speechless.
While it’s best to avoid topical retinoids for at least a week either side of treatment, this is mostly done out of an abundance of caution to avoid skin sensitivity, irritation and discomfort. The clinic should have advised you to not use retinol before treatment, but I want to be clear that this result has absolutely nothing to do with you or your skincare.
Electrologists can see when we have overtreated the skin while we are treating the follicle. Any competent electrologist can notice those initial signs, stop, and immediately change our approach before the overtreatment is significant enough to leave lasting marks. There is really no excuse, and an outcome like this is the fault of poor technique on the part of the electrologist, always. When you approach them, please don’t accept any excuses around “sensitive skin” or “just follow the post-treatment guide.”
OMG, this is one of the worst cases of malpractice I’ve seen. The person who did this should never be allowed to mutilate people again.
This isn’t caused by retinol use. This is over-treatment combined with grossly inaccurate insertions as if they’re legally blind.
Theres nothing for me to say because overtreatmet has occurred and my co-electrologists here have nailed it on the head. Sorry but you’ve been horribly mistreated.
