appropriate settings

Hey guys, this is my first post here, I would love to here your advice.

I have PCOS, recently started laser on my upper lip/chin. I have light (I think type II) skin and dark coarse hair as well as a few lighter ones. I had done 2 sessions, (2nd was about 1,5 weeks ago) and haven’t seen an noticeable shedding. But I have more white, coarse hair on my skin then before.

I asked my dermatologist what setting did she use during my treatments, could anyone help me whether it looks too low and that could have been the reason behind the new hairs?

She uses an Alexandrite Candela laser, with spotsize 8, 30J/cm2, and the number of shots was 148 during the first, 154 during the second treatment.

Thanks for any help!!

That seems on the lower end, but since you’re also female (I’m assuming since you mentioned having PCOS), it’s also advisable not to do laser on the face unless you have basically the beard of a man. The reason is to avoid induced growth which unfortunately can happen on a woman’s face. Generally it happens when the laser settings are lower and on tanner folks, but I would advise for you to find an electrologist (also the areas you’re doing aren’t large areas so it wouldn’t take a long time)

Brenton is right. Laser in female face can cause a paradoxical stimulation of vellus hair.
I opened a thread about it with a video report speaking about this side-effect. You can see the video here :

Many electrologists have cases like this to deal with quite frequently. Yes, this is an example of laser hair stimulation. I have removed the hair above the jaw line, working my way down to the neck, until she obtains her first full clearance, which will not take long. Sad situation for the client, but it will be corrected and she will have beautiful hair-free skin in about a year to 18 months.

Stop using laser immediately. The laser is inducing more hair growth.

Oh Dee how I wish I could treat those hairs! I can just picture how rewarding the hair exractions are going to be . Big beautiful hairs that are going to be so easy to see and a delight to remove!

It was fun. She got a first clearance. (Aloe is smeared all over the treated area, so she is feeling good!

Thanks everyone for the tips!!
I’m quite worried about trying electrolysis since I’ve often read technician skill has a huge effect on the outcome. And in my area it’s not a popular method, there aren’t many technicians (2-3 I’d say), so it’s hard to find any references.

If you’re willing to share a major area near where you’re located, I’m sure this forum has recommendations

Abolutely brilliant work Dee.

The little patch of 8 or so telogen hairs is of course messing with my OCD sense, but absolutely brilliant work. There’s a real sense of accomplishment in clearing an area like that in one sitting. Well done!

I cant tell…Synchro?

I’m not from the US, I live in Hungary (Central Europe). I’d be thrilled if anyone knew someone reputable here, but I don’t have high hopes.

This would be a significant commute for you from Hungary, but the poster from the thread below achieved satisfactory results with his electrologist in Bucharest, Romania. Good luck in any event.

not up on my european geography, but there is beate ritzert in germany…

Unfortunately both Bucharest and Germany on a regular basis are both out of my budget. I think I will try to look up a few of the local ones. Do you have any suggestions what to look for or ask that could help deciding whom to chose?

By the way, everyone is so helpful here, thanks again:)

Yes, that patch remained because she had had ENOUGH for one day! I’m lucky that I got as far as I did on her. She is young and the young ladies usually don’t last long for marathon removal.

I actually used PicoFlash on her, with an insulated probe.
