I’m actually quite surprised by your comments regarding who can do electrolysis in the UK because that wasnt my understanding.I was somehow under the impression that the British Electrology Association had a pretty firm hold over who did electrolysis but I admit I’m not from there and could be wrong. It’s very much the same here in canada of course, anyone with a quicky chairside instruction and “certificate” to go with it, as long as they can get acceptance for that certificate, can do electrolysis. So there are a great many beauty parlors and others that can technically and do…perform electrolysis. Actually thats one of the things I LIKE about electrology. Of course there are more extensive courses here, some ranging in the 500 hour or more range . Even still, this is almost a "bare minimum " in terms of learning electrolysis, akin to getting your learners permit to drive. Over time there are are continuing education opportunities and CEU’s and other credentials that can be obtained, for example the Certified Professional Electrologist. The thing is , whether you are working out of the back of your waxing salon, or from your specialized in electrology clinical office space, it is like a lot of things you get out of it, what you put into it. Get involved with the BEA, seekmore education would be my first recomendations.
The thing is I agree with you. There are some things you simply CANNOT learn without apprenticing under someone. Things like sterilization and infection control .Scheduling and booking systems . How to market yourself, what credit card acceptance systems to use, and an absolute mountain of other need skills. These are things that working under a more seasoned professional , can teach you.
OF course, I am training right now, what is likely to be my last student/ apprentice. From here the plan i to leave the city I’ve made my home over the last 30 + years and return to the east coast where I already have property I am developing. I’m getting older, and I’m hoping one day to teach Miss Sasha Fantastic to take over me. I may practise a little out east, but I’m not sure how many more years Ihave left in me. What makes her special? Well, It’sthat spark…that spark to do …Better. Keep that spark in YOU…and your professional career will take care of itself. But yes, ltake every opportunity you can to work with a seasoned professional. There’s so much more about doing this, that you need to know, ASIDE from doing electrolysis.
