Anyone else have trouble shaving?

I have really hard to remove hair. Even waxing only lasts like 5 or 6 days on me and not every hair is removed. I have a weird problem with shaving. I have hair coarse hair in most spots of my body. When I shave, it usually starts growing in after 12 hours. I’ll start to get a lil stubbly. It’s not too bad until about 24 hours. The problem is I can’t shave every day like a normal person. It doesn’t work that well. It hurts and leaves me really stubbly. I also have a bad 5 o’ clock shadow if I shave too soon. I have to wait til the hair is super long to have a smooth non painful shave. Like I have to wait 2 weeks to shave my legs and by then I’m super hairy. I’m hairy pretty much everywhere too. This is horrible. Anyone else not able to really shave??

For me, I try to use a good quality razor like Shick or Gillette, and NOT a disposable one - for some reason they are the biggest culprits in leaving rashes, for me. I also use a non scented shaving cream, or else just soap.

It sounds like maybe you need to lightly exfoliate after you shave to make sure you don’t get ingrowns? Also do you moisturise? you need to find a good moisturiser that soothes your legs and lessens the reaction.

I don’t know that “normal” people shave every day. Most people probably don’t because that causes irritation.

The best way to shave is to use a 3-4 blade razor like Gilette with a shaving gel (not cream) and soak the area for 10 mins before shaving.

Waxing should last for at least 2 weeks. If you get regrowth that early, the hair may be getting broken off and is not getting pulled out completely.

What areas bother yuo most? Laser is great for coarse dense growth. You can have even just 3-4 treatments and improve your life tremendously.

I use a 2 blade gilette razor. I use 2 blade cause 3 blade is too harsh. I use shaving cream and hot water. I also moisturize everytime I get out the shower.

hey there. i feel for you - have the same problem - have to shave my legs daily (in the morning) if i want them to look presentable in the summer. sometimes i shave twice a day just to stop the stubble coming through so fast but the irritation is bad…

i soak my skin - make sure the shower is hot and only shave at the end of the shower. I use a lot of shaving cream and have experimented with conditioner. it works well - but you have to keep on rinsing the razor so it doesn’t clog. the trick with both is to turn the shower-head away from you as you shave so it doesn’t rinse away or dilute the cream/gel. i also change the razor heads the whole time, i think they blunt really quickly.

i moisturize right out of the shower with a non-scented moisturizer intended for atopic skin. makes quite a difference. But the real thing that works for me is Tendskin. i use it religiously before going to bed - NEVER right after shaving as it would really irritate the skin (only once the skin has calmed down). this helps to stop the red bumps.

hope it helps! you’re not alone…

oh, p.s. waxing only last 6 days for me, too. if you have coarse hair, the next cycle is already coming in and can be felt by that point.

for me, even the hairs that were ripped out by the root (i know this for sure - i’ve seen the roots on the wax strip and it happens when i pluck too!) ALWAYS start poking through the skin by the 1.5 week mark. i’m sure these aren’t hairs that have been broken off - some people just have a faster turnover.

Hey bea25. I hear ya. It’s so hard having hair that’s so difficult to remove. Which tendskin product do you use? I checked it out but they have sooo many different products. Were you referring to the lotion?

Hey there, I use the liquid. It’s the only one my pharmacy sells. Comes in a blue bottle, it’s clear and looks like water, and I put it on with a cotton pad. (always wash hands after though because if you touch your eyes it stings!)

ALSO i just thought of another thing which makes shaving my legs much less irritating - i go really, really slowly, literally moving the razor at a snail’s pace instead of big sweeps. It’s hard because it takes ages, but it works so much better!

You should be using a shaving GEL (not cream) and soaking the area you want to shave for 10 mins in warm water prior to shaving.

i’m in the same situation. i stopped shaving long long time ago and turned to waxing to only get the same results you get. for the amount of money its just not worth the short amount of two weeks followed by bumps and then ingrown, spots, and pepper spots since i’m pale and have dark hair. everything adds up to so much money too. i use e-relief solution which is like tend skin, but a tube is around 10 bucks and last me a week if i use it every day. i’ve never shaved my arms or other areas because i’m worried of encountering this issue. i have waxed my stomach and butt only to get the same sad results.

for the time being i’ve quit doing anything to my hair (i look hideous) and am heavily considering laser.
