Any thoughts welcome

Hi i’m just looking for a bit of advice or guidance at the moment, maybe based on your experiences or methods.

I had the help from this forum to identify a good solution for hair removal/reduction. And this is what i’ve done, paid for Four treatments, on my lower, upper legs/buttocks and stomach/chest respectively. It cost me quite a lot of money, but i found a gentlelase and a descent place. I am skin type III

I’ve had all four treatments on my chest i think, and there has been little reduction in most areas. i know four treatments is not that many, but i thought it may have been enough.

i’ve had 2 treatments on the upper legs, and 2 treatments on my lower legs, and 2 on my buttocks. this has not been enough treatments to tell as of yet, but i’m still very hairy.

I have come to a point where i am trying to see the light at the end of the tunnel and things arent clear for me. I dont think i can afford any more treatments once these are done, is this unwise? is it bad to stop now, have i gone half way and things should improve drastically from now onwards? any thoughts on what people have gone through would be appreciated, whether you carried on and it was worth it or wether you stopped but found or used an alternative solution such as trimming. Or any tips or ways to deal with your hair.

Sorry its alot of questions, any answers would be good to read.
Many thanks

When I had LHR on my face, I was told it would take a minimum of 6 treatments, spaced out over 9-14 months (time required for all your hair to cycle in and then be treated.) It took about 6 treatments before there was a significant long term reduction, and I hit a plateau around 9.

How is the shedding 2-4 weeks afterward? Do you lose a lot of hair? Is your chest hair curly or distorted (if you shave your chest, do you get red bumps/ingrowns/PFB bumps a day or so later?)

On my chest, it all sheds well, after helping it out using gentle exfoliation. on my legs it sheds but leaves pepper spots everywhere, i assume the hair is killed. sorry, what do you mean “do i lose a lot of hair?”…my chest hair is relatively straight, i do not shave it apart from before treatments, as it is very prickly and does cause bumps and rashes everywhere.

so would you recommend trying to push for 6 treatments, rather then just 4. would it be less effective if i carried on the 5th treatment for example a year later, does this become less efficient?

thanks for your post by the way!

After 4 treatments, you should see a decent reduction on the chest area if the hair there is coarse. Do you have before and after pictures? What are the settings being used?

It would help greatly if you keep all your posts in one thread so that you don’t have to repeat this information every time.

sorry about the late reply havent had the chance to access the internet since my last post, and i will try to keep it to this post then?

I believe my chest hair was never really that coarse or thick to be honest (unless i shaved it), more quite alot of fluffyish hair, it gets thicker around the centre of the pecs. i dont have any pictures, but the settings used was if i remember correct, 16J on the first, 18J on the next two and 20J on the last. and 20J is the max they would go. not sure about spot size. can i request to change spot size if neccessary?

i dont see much of a reduction if any apart from the lower stomach going towards the pubic region.

i’m more confident and hopeful for my legs and buttocks as hair there is much coarser so this should be more effective from the sounds of it?

if i did stop treatments and come back to it at a later date, does this make it less effective?

When I asked such a question to a tech she said that it does not impact treatments other than that you are investing a lot of time to reach your goal.

thats interesting to hear. i thought the cycles might be effected and missing out some if that makes sense. but i think your right, i had a similar feeling my tech said that too, thanks!

If you stop and mess your cycles you will end up overlapping treatments which may not be needed if you didn’t stop the treatments to begin with.

if i overlap treatments what effects would this have?

I think we discussed this before. Laser only works on coarse hair. Now that you described your hair, the reason is the tyep of hair you’re treating. 20J is max on 18mm spot size which is largest and what should be used.

Yes, you’ll get good results with those settings on any COARSE hair.

Hi there. I have officially had 4 treatments on my chest, legs, buttocks and thats the package completed. I am not sure how effective it was, but the shedding does seem like there is less hair to shed so presumably there is now less hair. When it grows back it doesn’t look too much different to me though, but i guess maybe another 4 treatments would leave a nice result. Taking that into account and the money i am going to leave it for a while and think carefully before committing to another contract.

I had 4 treatments on my face too, my last nearly 2 weeks ago. This area seems to be very difficult for me, although my hair is extremely coarse and black the tech’s believe it should be very effective. Which is true for about 90% of my beard area. The stubborn areas are above the lip, chin and just below the jawline under the sideburns part of the neck. An educated guess is because the roots are far deeper in these areas. I have a “ final ” touch up in about a weeks time and i am confident everywhere else on the face would have shed apart from spots in these areas. As this has been the case on every treatment previously. The tech’s have not missed spots and i am just wondering what to do, as i believe the touch up will get about 50-75% of these unaffected areas. And i will be left with few dark patches of hair on my face which stands out alot because i have very white skin and jet black hair, my previous remedies have been to simply pluck these hairs out until my beard regrows but i know this is not good, and its quite difficult and generally i want to avoid doing this again!

  • I am wondering if anybody has similar problems or have seen/treated similar patients and what i could do? My thought would be to ask if i could pay for one more touch-up, around 1.5 weeks later? I dont mind that this area would be slightly behind in growing back.

  • Also could i possibly ask the tech to really focus on these spots going over it as much as possible without burning my skin :-S

Any thoughts welcome as usual, please!

The chin and upper lip areas are usually the most difficult to treat n male faces and require more treatments. What settings are being used?

The setting used was 20 joules and maximum spot size before, but she lowered it to 18 joules as i had been in the sun one day, no tan or anything she just said just in case.

So its normal for hairs to not shed? the upper lip isnt as bad as the chin, but for the chin nearly half of one side hasnt reacted it looks rather weird. And is very noticeable as i’m fair with black hair!! This is normal? Is there any way i can make sure it all sheds, or the best way i can do this? I wish i insisted on going to the 20 Joules now :frowning:
I really want all the hair to shed so i dont have to pluck it out/shave extra close/damage my skin!

Please a bit more advice? Thanks alot

You should get a touchup at 3 weeks on whatever doesn’t shed.

Is the hair growing as usual or just remains there as pepperspots?

Yep, thats what i’m doing, going back at 3 weeks.

I dont get any pepperspots on my face, it either sheds or keeps growing as usual.

    • Update, the moustache area has nearly all shed off this time, it has been very responsive and i am sure after the touch up it would be fine as with the rest of the face apart from one area.
  • The chin, has been very different, Alot of hair has not reacted, even half of one side is virtually unaffected. Is it possible the laser is just not powerful enough for this hair?

Just have them touch it up and see how that goes. The hair is probably very dense and some fell out, but other needs another pass.

I will do this, but what if say a large amount is still there after a touch up? Should i ask for a second touch up at a price, to clear this up? Or should i pay for electrolysis to finish it off?

I am just trying to plan it out and be prepared to prevent any bad situations for myself. Thanks for the guidance LAgirl do appreciate this.

Well, you’ll have to wait 3 weeks for the hair to shed after the touchup. So at that point, you’ll be soon getting another treatment anyway.
