Another test patch

So, as I had told you I had found a good practitioner. Turns out unfortunately her equipment broke down temporarily and, in the meantime, I was contacted by another clinic that isn’t often available in my area (they travel to the city to offer their services.) Since this place is the only place in the country related to Dectro and is also the only place that offers actual training in electrolysis I was interested in trying their services.

Only, now I’m torn between both places since they are both positive experiences:

Place 1

Pros: rather nice and communicative practicioner, answers any question; 16 years of experience; seems to know what she’s doing; offered quite a few minutes the first time around; always available; cheaper.

Cons: the place is a bit unorganized (perused equipment lying around although I was assured they use sterile equipment - saw them opening a needle package); older equipment (has a foot pedal and I have to hold a metal bar); not very good lighting, although she wears magnifying glasses; more painful, felt more tugging.

Place 2

Pros: more sterile environment; uses the Apilus equipment (27 Mhz) and insulated probes (just checked in the Dectro site - they were from a blue package); faster treatment and the pain is way more bearable (my test patch was done after a work day with caffeine and enough stress to go around); perfect insertions every time, didn’t feel any tugging at all; more light (uses a magnifying overhead light.)

Cons: the practitioner is younger so I gather she has less experience than the other; only available once a month as they have to travel to town; my skin had quite a few raised bumps post treatment though it’s better now, a few hours later (looks like an acne breakout); slightly more expensive.

Also, in the Place 2 I got a bonus after treatment - while I don’t have to hold anything during treatment, after it she had me hold the familiar metal bar, only with a wet paper around it while she rolled the other metal bar over the treated area. She says it helps immunization. I was unfamiliar with this procedure.

Also, another thing that bothered me in the first place, where I had to hold the metal bar (and this might just me be being paranoid) but I swear hours after the session I could still feel the current in my body and my heartbeat was a bit fast. Like I said, could be paranoia, could be stress, but I didn’t feel it this time around.

I already purchased one hour in the first place so I’m gonna spend that session time before I reach a decision. Although the first practitioner is such a nice person and so open but I need to decide what is best for me and to me coping with pain better would definitely help.

I know the final decision is up to me but any opinions out there?

Some clients like to have two options because scheduling can be difficult. When you want a quick cleanup and can’t get in, there can be that temptation to tweeze. I’m squeezing someone in early tomorrow morning because she needs a quick cleanup. Don’t feel sorry for me, I had a really fun day today, so I’m rested and ready to go!

People want the hair gone as fast as possible and they don’t want it to hurt very much, so option 2, as you described it sounds good to me. A clean environment is always appreciated, too, I’m sure.

Footswitch or no footswitch? Holding the metal bar or not holding the metal bar? Don’t worry about that stuff. That is all related to the particular functioning of the epilator and the electrologists preferences. Skill is the the number one factor in this profession, as it is in other professions and skill relates to doing perfect insertions, while using the proper amount of energy to disable a hair follicle.

Thanks for your reply.

As for the temptation to tweeze I don’t tweeze, like, at all. I’m just too paranoid that the hair will be even more noticeable so I don’t even shave it either. I merely trim it from time to time and that’s it. I know I’m probably a rarity, though (heck, I didn’t even shave my bikini line until today and that’s because I went to have laser hair removal in some body areas.)

Hm both places seem fine, my only problem in getting treated in both is the money factor. But if I do half an hour in one and half an hour in another, like, twice a month I would spend basically the same, I guess. Should I mention in both places I’m getting treated elsewhere? I don’t want to have problems with them overtreating the same area (well, close to the same area).

I’m a bit concerned with the energy level of the second place, though. Today the area treated is quite noticeable and I didn’t have this reaction in the first place. Also, I still have some marks under my chin area from the first place and treatment was over a month ago. I’ll post a pic tomorrow with some good natural light (I hope).

Forgot to mention that neither place does clearances at all. In place two I have the feeling they only do around thirty minutes each time (though they’re mighty fast). I didn’t want clearings anyways because I’m too scared of permanent marks and, also, I need to look presentable for work and showing up with what looks like a bad acne breakout all over my face wouldn’t be so great (and sadly my workplace isn’t the best in terms of sanitary conditions).
