Annoyed and frustrated

Hi everyone. I would like to first thank anyone that is opening this and taking the time to read this. I’d like honest answers because I have been doing electrolysis since the summer of 2012 on my upper lip only … Yeah since summer 2012-now. Please read to understand maybe I’m at fault or maybe it’s my hair growth or the electrolysis…

I am a young female in my early 20s. I started realizing around 2011 that I had light upper lip hair. It was not noticeable unless you went up close, but it made me paranoid and upset cause I knew it was there. So I researched hair removals. I refused to shave or wax because I always feared it would make me look worst. I’m also very pale so I felt any of those other removals would cause me 5 o clock shadow. So I was between electrolysis and laser. I chose electrolysis because it’s FDA permanent removal.

I found a reputable electrolysis in my area. Very clean, looks professional, uses numbing cream. I went to her at 2012. She seemed like she knows what she’s doing. Most times she gives me some probes to hold and she begins. The process doesn’t hurt that bad, it just feels like a small pinch… I’m barely red after… And when she is pulling the hair I feel it a little but it’s not tugged as if she plucked. I went from her from 2012-2016.

Hair never minimized I believe. So I looked for another reputable electrolysis in my area. She was in a doctors office and charged me for numbing cream … Anyways the electrolysis there hurt a lot . I would leave and my upper lip looked swollen a little and very red… She also scared me … I got upset … I think she possibly killed a few hairs for good but most returned. I went to her for about 10 sessions and returned to my prior electrolysis because I couldn’t stand the scarring (she caused two pits and said that was how it was cause I have two to three tiny pock marks on my cheek from chicken pox). I assumed maybe my previous electrolysis knew my face was sensitive and prone to scarring and that’s why she maybe uses less voltage and really thin needles ?

I don’t know what to say or do, I’m thinking should I quit electro and do laser ?? I don’t believe it should take more than 5 years to remove something that looks like peach fuzz except for two to three light brown hair on side of lips . I spend close to 50 dollars each session for 15 minutes …

Any feedback to what I wrote above would be helpful,

Thank you for reading

Dear should be pissed off not just annoyed:

Let me share with you another experience. I have a client, i will call her D . D came to me about a year ago with light blond fuzz covering her upper lip. I could not convince her it was nothing, she wanted it gone. This was an big challenge for a relatively novice electrologist because the hairs were so light and tiny they were an exceptional challenge to see and insert into. She also had pain issues and couldnt do more than 15 minutes at a time. I worked for another electrologist then , and she had other employees as well, and D would see me or one of them if I was unavailable for about 15 minutes a week, then after several months, 10 minutes at a time.I’m certain I was slow, and I know I had challenges fitting the right size probe into her tiny follicles on otherwise porcelain like skin.

It’s a year later , and D still comes to see me for 10 minutes every 2-3 weeks. Except I have not treated more than 2 hairs on her upper lip in months.I’ve moved on to other random hairs elsewhere on her face for the rest of the time. The upper lip hair that gave her so much dysphoria, so much grief that she could not continue without having it off, well it’s gone.I cant even claimit was my best treatment, I really struggled!

So whats the difference between D’s experience and your own? The basic reason is quality treatment with adequate energy levels. IF you are barely feeling it, and you are feeling the hair being removed thn that hair is NOT DEAD! You’ve just payed to be plucked. For 4 years. Yes you can expect some skin reation. ITs expected! You WILL have skin reaction. It does NOT necessarily mean you are Scarred . Please look to Michael Bono’s video series the healing skin for descriptions of scarring. It’s available here:

I say this a lot around here, but you need to not be seeing an electrologist who is undertreating. 4 years of 15 minute weekly sessions with no results? Do you just like to give this woman money or something? Good grief. You should have been FINISHED 4 times by now, not wondering why you are not getting results. HEaring about stuff likes this makes me really angry!

It sounds a bit as if the 1st electrologist undertreated and the 2nd did not hit the pores correctly. Which may, admittedly, be difficult even with large magnification with hairs like yours.

What can You expect if the hairs were previously untreated?

Most of those hairs are in telogen or late anagen. Which means that the insertions must be adapted - not too deep, it won’t help to kill the tissue below the small (but sometimes surprisinglich wide) follicle of an “extended vellus” hair in its telogen growth stage.

If such a hair has been hit correctly You will have been treated with a small signal, but nevertheless a significant swelling will be seen, especially if many hairs have been taken out. And You will observe tiny point of scarf originating at the depth of the treatment - unavoidable if something has happened, actually a “side effect” which is desirable as long as it remains small, but growing out and falling off quickly.

And You will observe a rapid reduction, even if there was no full clearance. These fine hairs on the upper or lower lip usually go away fast!
