I was here several years ago frustrated because I didn’t realize electrolysis would take so long or cost so much. Well, my financial situation has improved and I started again in November 2020. I go 4 times a month for a total of six hours per month. The improvement has been amazing! She’s very thorough and retreats an area until it is cleared. My chin took forever. She says tat chin hair is most stubborn. She uses blend for the first round, then thermolysis on the regrowth and on my cheeks where the hair is finer. Weird question, why does thermolysis hurt worse than blend? Or am I just weird?
I’m black and have thick hair on my neck, chin and cheeks. I’m in my 50s and plucked for years so the hair is very resistant. Thankfully I have a high pain tolerance. My skin is crazy sensitive so I’m not surprised that I’m experiencing hyperpigmentation. Oddly it’s only on my cheeks but it’s really bad. I struggle to cover it even with heavy makeup. My electrologist said she normally uses a gold probe but switched to stainless steel on my cheeks to go faster. And it was fast she cleared both cheeks in two hours with only a brief follow-up.
I told her I’d rather go slow with the gold probe. I have several zoom calls each week where my face is right there in front of everyone. I’ve tried to find pictures of hyperpigmentation that’s this bad so far no luck. I’m leery of posting pictures for fear of what you’ll say. Yes, it’s that bad.
I’ve taken the month of May off from treatment due to work and family commitments. My dermatologist gave me a script for Triluma. It’s hella pricey though and I’m wondering should I wait until after I’m done with all my treatments before using it? I have lots of hyperpigmentation from ingrowns as well but fortunately they’re on my neck and easier to hide.
Also, I have hereditary hair loss along my hairline. I’m using Rogaine for it. I always carefully rinse my face after use but could it make the hair growth worse? I’ve wanted to try hair growth supplements like MSM but have hesitated for fear that it would make my facial hair grow too.
TLDR: Hyperpigmentation. Use Triluma now or wait until treatment ends? Are gold probes slower? Rogaine and MSM for scalp hair. Will they make facial hair growth worse?
