I am doing a bit of self learning at this time. I just recieved a copy of a book “Therapeutic Modalities in Rehabilitation”, by William E. Prentice. While this book has nothing really in regards to hair removal, it is aimed at physical therapy. For my own use I am purchasing an “Interferential Muscle Stimulator”, and while reading the book I found that Anaphoresis can be used to push Lidocaine into the bodies cells. The currents the book is talking about is like 4ma for about 10 minutes duration. Yes, I know 4 ma is quite a lot and most machines only go up to about 2 ma. But the principles should still work, but might take a bit longer. I expect the fact might get a bit more red than normal, as the lidocaine besides the anaphoresis will dialate blood vessels. I am wondering if any other electrologists on here have ever trying using this form of Iontophoresis on themselves or on clients. The concentration of lidocaine used in the example was 5% lidocaine.
I was told this is a big no-no for electrolysis when I was a student and beyond, so I never attempted such a thing out of fear of harming someone. Would like to hear more input from others though.
This would be a good thing to discuss on the AEA site if you are a member, Marthajoy.
