An up-to-date electrolysist’s option on at-home laser?

Hi all,

I’m wondering if a professional electrolysist can shine some light on the newer at-home laser products and if there is any evidence that supports their success not for permanent removal of hair but simply for hair reduction (color, number, fineness etc.). I have many friends who use these machines and I’m very skeptical. They claim that their hair grows back patchy for a period but I would chalk that up to them treating more hairs per cycle (like waxing removes hairs at various phases and so gives the illusion of longer term hair reduction). does that sound right? have things changed for consumer level products in the last 5 years?

thank you

Consumer lasers for hair removal DO NOT EXIST. What are called lasers are in reality flashlamps that generate pulses of broad spectrum light. These devices are intentionally underpowered for safety reasons and I would not look for this to change. I am not aware of any consumer light-based hair removal devices cleared for permanent hair reduction.
