I live about 45 minutes away from Chicago in the Northwest suburbs and I currently have had 2 appointments with an electrolysist in the Barrington area. She is a registered nurse, very clean in her technique,as 15 years of experience, has another office in another town, and is very nice and very professional. The question I have is that she charges 110 per hour.Does this seem high or is this a legitimate price for her experience? The highest I have heard on this sight is 80 per hour.I really like her and dont mind paying that much, but would like to know if Ishould be paying that amount.Thank you in advance for any replies.
Actually, the higest price I have heard on this site was $300 per hour for some place in the 90210 zip code.
Dollars per hour is not where you should be looking to figure value, but hairs per hour and the condition of your skin, and the effectiveness of the treatments, and the relative comfort of the treatments.
Check out this post string:
$110 is definitely on the higher end of things, especially for Chicago suburbs. $100 is pretty normal in Manhattan. In LA, the highest I’ve seen is $80 (James, who is charging $300 in Beverly Hills?). Skill is very important though and if there is no competition around her with a good machine and good skill, she may feel justified in charging that. Maybe her cost of running the business are high. You can ask her. Some of my electrologists have done packages for me where I bought a certain number of hours at a lower price. Maybe she’d be willing to do that too.
A poster on here once discussed her treatment at $300 per hour in “The Hills” and we all blanched when she insisted that she was not getting Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation, but actual probe electrolysis (with a stereo knob machine no less) and most of us practitioners seriously considered packing up and moving The poster was so embarassed, she did not say the name of the person she had been seeing, but did decide that she would look elsewhere.
There we go again, HairTell ruins another hair remover’s life.
Honestly, there is a lady near me charging $150 per hour for electrolysis with a machine one can buy for $500 or less on Ebay these days… but her interior decorator kicks my decorator’s @$$ up and down the isle. (too bad that doesn’t translate to better or faster treatment with less skin irritaion for the clients)
Hi Phinnie,
On James’ recommendation, I had a treatment with an electrologist in Niles, IL. She charged me $80 per hour and she said she is giving me student discount. She has more than 25 years of experience and I would recommend her without any hesitation. Her contact information is:
Debbie Strickland
Merle Norman Cosmetics
7323 N. Harlem Avenue
Niles, Illinois 60714
847 600-3000
Debbiestrickland3@comcast.net
I think her sister also practices in the same facility but i didn’t have treatment with her so I can say only about Debbie. Please insist to have electrolysis with her.
Once I am finished with my electrology training, I now know where I am going to move
James, does the lady that you are talking about have marble floors with a water effect in her waiting room?
LAgirl, I actually have spoken to a few skilled electrologists in the LA and Orange County (Newport Beach) area charging up to $120. I later found out that these electrologist were practicing out of exclusive posh health spas.
I have a hunch they have numerous clients paying that much, but it doesn’t surprise me in LA anything goes. I for one could never afford that kind of pricing.
Hi phinnie, that is ballpark for NW suburbs, although towards the higher end. I know 2 others that are charging $100/hr (AH and EGV). Everything is expensive in IL, tell me about it.
I know who you are talking about and have had some good results with her. I’ve paid less elsewhere and received worse results. If Barrington is close to where you live, and with traffic in Chicago the way it is, it might be the best deal for you. Best of luck.
Hi Phinnie,
I know this thread is a year and a half old, but I was wondering if you had good results with the woman in Barrington? I live in the area, and as you probably know, there aren’t many options close by to choose from!
If you feel you are being over charged maybe save your money for a few months and spend a couple of nights in another town for half the price and maybe have a good few sessions ,I have a lady who comes to me from london and it takes her 2 and a half hours to get to me but it has saves her hundreds if not thousands.
