Alternative Healthcare Associates in D.C

I’ve used the search engine and I’ve found some positive comments about the place but it’s always something along the lines of “I’ve heard good things”. But no actual personal stories. Has anyone actually gone there for LHR on the face or legs and was pleased? Thanks.

There are several recommended clinics in the DC area here and on cosmetic enhancements forum. This one doesn’t ring a bell. You can figure out if someone is good by going to a consultation and discussing what machine and settings they will use, and in general seeing if they know their stuff (which you should learn by reading the FAQs here).

What kind of facial treatments? Male or female? Coarse, dense hair or not?

I’m a male well hopefully not for long. I’m trying to get my facial hair removed and if that goes well the hair on my legs will follow. After 2.5 years of taking T-blockers(spiro 300mg/crypto flutamide) and 10 months of DHT blockers (Avodart) there is no change what so ever in my leg hair so that’s my only solution.
The practitioner at AHA seemed very experienced and confident and she uses an alexandrite laser which is good for my skin, type III. She also said I could come in once a month free of charge to have the area cleared around my mouth which she said was the most difficult and stubborn area. I went to Cultura as well and they said they use multiple lasers that will be more effective when my hair thins after several treatments. They wouldn’t tell me what they would use actually they said it would be up the the nurse. I never even heard of multiple laser types used over the course of several treatments.
So I’m still not sure I just want a little more reassurance that’s why I asked my initial question. Oh, and the difference between the two packages factoring the different number of treatments is $700. So I’m not sure where to go from here. Sounds like a risk either way.

So, you’re a TG looking to get your face cleared. Got it.

A couple things:

  1. Laser won’t be your 100% solution. You’ll be able to remove a bulk of the hair, but you’ll need to switch to electrolysis to get to 100% removal once the hair gets finer.

  2. What specific alex lasers are they planning to use on you? What settings (joules, spot size, pulse width)?

  3. Are they willing to do a free test spot?

  4. You’ll probably need to use a numbing cream for this area if the hair is dark, dense and coarse as it should be for laser to work.

  5. How many treatments are included for what cost? How often are treatments spaced? Are they offering free touchups, i.e. treat anything that didn’t shed within 3-4 weeks after each treatment?

  6. How many clinics did you check out?

In my experience, the cost factor does not favor a L.A.S.E.R. plus electrolysis plan, when an electrolysis only with a fast worker – spaced appropriately, gets there sooner and with less money spent.

Now some have said that the reduced time spent on the table in the L.A.S.E.R. then electrolysis on the face game makes the extra money worth it, but I don’t like the odds.

You might do better to do the legs with L.A.S.E.R. as the primary choice, and take up any stragglers with electrolysis, but my opinion still leans heavily to the electrolysis side, especially for the TG community.

I would disagree when we’re talking about a male face. That’s a lot of dense coarse hair that laser loves. Legs are a large area, so they’re the most expensive to treat when it comes to LHR. A face is a relatively small area, so it’s a lot cheaper to treat with laser, especially compared to doing electrolysis from the start.

I thought an electrolysis only approach would be good 2.5 years ago but I have almost non-existent results have 60 or so hours and I’m getting frustrated. Combine that with a the knowledge I learned recently that the sign a hair has been removed for good by electrolysis, is that it comes out without pain. The 3 electrologist I’ve had have an abysmal efficiency rate. I’d say my last electrologist was about 10% effective by the hairs, I counted during the last removal I had. I’m gonna try another method, namely laser. I have extremely coarse hair (there’s no hiding my 5 o’clock shadow) and a light complexion(TIII) so I think I’m a good candidate. I’ll remove the rest with electrolysis, she estimated an 80% reduction on average.
She’s going to use an Alexandrite laser but I’m not sure what the setting are. I think she said she’d adjust it but I don’t remember the baseline. Good question I’ll email her. Thankies.

As has been said before, I can’t say what one will get when one walks into just any electrolysis practice in the world. They are all different.

Fino Gior used to say that he could clear the average man’s beard in 5 hours, and everyone called him a liar. I understand where he is coming from, as my situation is that although I can’t match his speed (who can?) I do seem to match his results, however, as far as delivering clear skin. This is the before and after of one clearance. The after picture was taken sometime between 4 to 6 weeks after.

Now let all the wrestling fans say “Woooooooo!”

I think your approach is a good one given your hair and skin type. Sounds like you found a good clinic with an alex laser and they’re not overpromising. 80% is a decent expectation. I would count on 8-10 treatments or so spaced 8-10 weeks apart. Make sure to ask about touchups. They should be included for free at 3 week marks for any hair that hasn’t shed.

Electrolysis is not judged by pain levels. There are many factors involved, but most important is likely that the hair comes out without resistance after being zapped. Otherwise, it’s being plucked.
