Alma laser hair removal?

Hi all,

It’s been a long time since I came on the forum and just to update I’ve had my third laser session on my underarms, my last being in October - very bad on my part in terms of leaving it so long but hopefully I’ll not do the same again.

Anyway, at my session today I asked about getting electrolysis done, in particular on my fingers - to which my technician said that if I was to get electrolysis done I would be coming back ‘for years’ if I wanted permanent removal.

I then said that I thought electrolysis would be better than laser as the hairs were finer and that’s when she mentioned Alma laser removal and showed me some case study pictures she had. I was wondering if anyone has had treatment with the Alma laser and whether or not it was effective?

Any advice appreciated as always.

Oh man lol cringes.

She’s wrong about electrolysis, there’s absolutely no situation where laser is better than electrolysis in any way shape or form. The only benefit is the speed, but electrolysis is MUCH more effective she’s just pushing laser on you.

Secondly, Alma is a company, they make the Soprano XL which from my experience is junk. Just do some searches on here for Soprano XL and you’ll find the threads where people discuss their treatments.

Sounds like someone is being lazy and offering up whatever is easiest on her. It doesn’t matter what laser or IPL it is. They won’t work on fine hair.

fizzy - I had laser on my hands and fingers along with my 3/4 arm treatment (free of charge).

I planned on electrolysis for the hands and fingers later anyway, so I thought why not?

The hair on the hands has become finer and so has the hair on the fingers somewhat… however I believe I have experienced induced growth on the fingers as there are many more hairs.

Electrolysis will sort yours hairs for good. Unless they are very coarse, Laser will just make them finer at best. If you’re going to pay for it, I personally wouldn’t bother.

So Electrolysis is defintely the best way forward? How many hours treatment have you had stoppit&tidyup, and how effective has it been?

I did think what the laser lady said was contrary to everything I’ve heard and I’m glad you guys have validated this.

I haven’t had electrolysis on my fingers yet.

But where I have had it, it has been effective.

My electrologist works at the rate of 5-10 hairs/min depending on whether she is using blend or thermolysis. I’m sure you could get clearance of most of the hairs in one session of anywhere from 45mins-1.5hrs depending on how much hair you have.

After that, it’s just a matter of going for clearances when the next growth cycle comes through, same way as you would for Laser. But at each clearance, there should be less hairs to treat.

You should be done in a year to 18months.

I’ve only had 2 electrolysis clearances on my feet and toes and whilst there is still plenty of hair there to be treated, the reduction has been enough that the thickest hairs are gone (or have been made finer). I just shave them now and don’t even notice the hairs until they get quite long (so only shave about once every month)… before I’d wax every 2 weeks.

I do not feel positive about you asking your laser practitioner to do electrolysis though. If she was a good electrologist, her opinion would have been very different.

Hi. I was wondering if you had Soprano XL treatments for your hands and fingers? I am doing exactly that right now and I will go in for my 2nd treatment next week(it will be 10 weeks after my 1st treatment) and right now I see a pretty small reduction. What I do notice is that you can’t see all the hair as clear anymore but maybe that’s a false illusion because the hairs haven’t finished growing to the original length.

How many treatments did you have on your hands? How is the reduction? Your answers would be very helpful for me.

Btw Today I asked the tech if she would try higher settings this time. She is kind of weird about it, saying it depends on the cycle of hair growth etc, and not about how high the settings are. Is this true you guys?

Hi Johnson,

I was treated with an Nd:YAG (as noted in my sig), which from what I’ve read on here, should generally give more effective treatment than diode lasers.

I had five treatments in total, this area was just treated for free along with my arms. So when I achieved the desired reduction on my arms, I stopped.

Between treatments, yeh, it did look like I was getting a reduction (as well as the hairs becoming finer). It’s when you wait out a few months after you stop and let the hairs grow out that you really see your results.

I’d say the reduction on the hands in 30-50% but the hairs remaining are finer. On the fingers there has been an increase in hairs but all the hairs are finer.

Thank you for responding^^

I see what you’re saying. I think when I finally quit laser, the next year or so is gonna be the most scary cause like you said it’s later on when you really see what the permanent results are. Just wondering how long has it been since you’ve quit the laser treatments? and after how many months did the final hairs grow back?

No probs

My treatments have been staggered, I started with underarms in summer of 2008 and gradually added other areas, which 3/4 arms being the latest and finishing in about September 2010.

With my legs, I think it was a good sixth months after I stopped with hairs gradually coming through but virtually all of these were very, very fine. So no big deal.

You can read my journey in the thread linked in my sig.

Diode is effective. It’s just generally more difficult to use. So lack of results can be user error.

You should wait 6 months after the last treatment to judge permanency.

^I meant that, thanks for clarifying. When you put the whole package of variables together I haven’t heard many success stories.
